I think around 75% of the students from my class turned down columbia for stern

LOL Alice start your thread and find out....

from the other thread I can tell that you are awfully unfamiliar with nyu and dont even understand gsp... you should do your research before you make such pompous statements.

ehhh. the SAT gap may be relatively small between these two schools, but the ratings gap is not. NYU is clearly not Columbia.

Again, it depends on whats being ranked and whose doing the ranking. I'll grant you Columbia overall is a little better than NYU. Both are still great schools-but its not like NYU is some 2nd tier state school and Columbia is Harvard. And Columbia certainly isn't the only school in New York where one can find academic excellence.

"people are only dying to go there because its in NYC"

-You still haven't addressed why there are plenty of other colleges in NYC that are nowhere near NYU's level. By your logic, it seems NYU is the only school in New York. Lets see: I'm going to fork over $40K a year just be in New York, I don't care for school or academics..what utter nonsense, no top student thinks like this, you'd don't have a clue as to what you're saying.

"What schools did applicants turn down to go to NYU? Start a thread on that, and you will get the picture."

-Go for it, start one. I can tell you there will be plenty of lower ivies in there...I turned down 3-Penn College, Cornell, and Brown. You'll also see state schools like UMich and UCLA in addition to private schools like USC, Tufts, BU, BC, Gtown, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, and Notre Dame.

"Most everyone in my school applies to NYU as a safety."

-Where do you go to high school?...I can assure its either on same level as my high school or not as good (I went to a top private school). The fact is, every college save the very top ivies have people who apply to them as a safety...especially at the best high schools.

Alice, out of curiosity

what are your stats?

Matt, I was never comparing Stern with Columbia. Just NYU with Columbia. Of course Stern is awesome, and I am thrilled to get in.

Whoever said that 75% of their friends turned down Columbia for Stern, is again comparing all of Columbia with an elite school within NYU.

I have never posted my stats, but since you ask, I will give you 2 stats of mine: 1560 SAT and 3.9 uwgpa.

And i have some wonderful acceptances, all of which I would put ahead of NYU-CAS if that's where I had applied. But I got into Stern:)

nice i got into nyu stern with similiar stats (1520 3.92). Are you planning on going, did you join the myspace group?

try not to sound so condescending towards the other schools tho, it only helps increase the stereotypes towards sternies..

I was def. not condescending.....nor did I call anyone names like "pompous" . Some schools are better than others, that's all. I am not getting in an argument about it.

Matt, try not to be condescending to me, lol, and I may join your myspacegroup.

Alice if you look at stats and where NYU student go after they graduate you would know that your response is not only uneducated but false. Look at the amount of money the average NYU grad is making upon graduation and compare it. NYU will be a top 30 school within the next two years (probably by next year) and NYC while fun is only part of the draw. 84% of NYU students who apply are accepted into a medical school and Stern graduates make more than almost any other University grads. Also NYU is no longer a safety for anyone. They decline a number of students who end up attending Ivy League schools. Do your research before you post.

Alice: I don't think you're too good for NYU. I applied to the CAS as economics/math major, and my SAT is higher than yours, my gpa is a bit lower but I attend a well known high school. I have a 1600 SAT/3.7 UW. If you hope to get anywhere in the business world, I think you should lose the attitude darling. Do you really think anyone cares if you join a myspace group?

My analysis on this: I got deferred from early action at Harvard, and am still waiting. I've got likely letters from NYU, and a couple others (including Ivy) schools as of now. I've gotten into University of Michigan and BU, they were my safeties. I basically have no idea where I'm going yet though.

I think it would be very rare for someone to take NYU over the holy trinity (thats HYP), but things always get a lot murkier after that.

"NYU will be a top 30 school within the next two years (probably by next year) and NYC while fun is only part of the draw."

Umm, it already is by most objective accounts as well as by most rankings. If you mean top 30 by US News standards, thats a different story.....maybe Stanford willl beat UPenn next year as well for a change (just to illustrate the ridiculousness of that ranking).

"If you hope to get anywhere in the business world, I think you should lose the attitude darling."

HAHA...darling..nice, that combined with an arrogant bit of backhanded advice from someone still in high school. I sense a future degenerate trader here. You may even be allowed to use words like "darling" if you end up at a hedge fund where its a predominantly male environment (I'm at one now).

i didnt think columbia had much of an undergrad business school.
