Oct 8 Writing Section

did all of you write your thesis sentence in the essay as the first sentence in the the essay? i didn't write it as the first sentence. i used a rhetorical question. it was a good one though. darn.

...............

then 'as visible as smog' will replace 'is visible as smog', making a fragment.

yea ok on the march SAT i wrote two full pages, three examples w/ complete intro and conclusion....score? 8. after my mom looked at my essay on the cb website she thought that my grammar killed my score (didn't have time to proofread at the time), but how can the graders even notice grammar mistakes in that short amount of time?

No I am quite sure it's "are visible as smog", changing it to "as" changes the meaning of the sentence. Many pollutants concentrated IS smog. The sentence is not making a comparison between pollutants and smog. It is simply stating what pollutants are called when they are concentrated in cities.

ahh... i get why it's no error now. i put no error at first but doubted myself because I saw so many no errors... >_< oh well, better luck next time.

exactly what i was trying to say. dualityim, good job!

I didn't read much of this thread, but I had a question.

Did you guys get a LOT of E's in the Sentence correction section of the first Writing section (35 question one)? I remember I got 3-4~ on the sentence correction part alone.

And also, were the last two answers of the Part 10 Writing Section D and D?
I just remember that...don't know why lol.

the last three questions on a writing section i got 3 straight D's...

Eddieee yes I got 4 E's (No Errors) on the error ID questions.

our topic (vancouver) was : should ppl make more of an effort to keep some things private?

i almost filled 2 pgs...but i have small writing! do i still have a chance for a 12? (actually, it's more of 1.6 pgs) =)

Dood this year's topics were all good topics!..sooooo much better than that stupid creativity one... =/

college board is seriously retarded
i mean it could be either way
visible as smog
or as visible as smog
i have a feeling that either
1) college board will toss this question out
or
2) collegeboard will be dumb and make "as visible as smog" the answer; otherwise why would they have underlined it if it didn't have a mistake...it seems kind of unlikely that we would just happen to underline the one that causes the most controversy and say that it is correct. Sorry its kinda hard to explain so maybe u didn't understand

YES! I know this time the topics were SOOOO much better! I pretty much BSed my way through the creativity one and got a 6, couldnt think up some good examples and just wrote junk... BUT DIFFERENT STORY THIS TIME! =D

SATs suck a lot:
I know what you mean by why would they underline "visible as smog" if there was nothing wrong with it because this question is causing a lot of controversies, but they probably didnt think of it while compiling the stupid test. I seriously doubt they'll throw out the question though. I put AS visible as smog because I wasnt thinking that the air pollutants WERE the smog itself and thought it was a idiomatic error in comparision. Oh well... now the more I look at it, E sounds more like the correct answer.

whaa? can some one post that question? i think i put E, but not sure. it didn't really stand out to me as too tricky

did anyone get the paragraph about electoral college for the writing section?

no..,that's weird because I had two writing sections, so one's experimental...but I didnt see the electoral college on there...

the ones i had had the banjo/painting and another one..i forgot tho

I believe CB has 2 different versions of each different experimental section type (CR/M/W). I got 4 reading sections but nothing about Nixon.

The missouri river used "has adversely affected". I put no error.

damn i got the experimental math section, and it had to be the easiest one.
