For reading, that question where it was complete agreement vs qualified acceptance, I think it was qualified acceptance, because you can almost never prove an absolute statement like that. Qualified acceptance is not tentative, but it is firm with room to buckle. It was the more neutral answer, but not too neutral as not to pick a side. I think. There was a similar question to this one on the October SAT.

What did you guys get for that one question that was asking something along the lines of “what is the significance of the second paragraph” in the article about ignorance and space exploration?

@hana: It was letter D. the original phrase was “would seem” but I thought the would have seemed would be grammatically correct. I’m extremely nervous about my writing section. If I missed more than 3, than an 80 in math would literally be my lifesaver.

Also, did you guys get E for the last question on the first section? It was generalizing both passages.

@stressed4lyfe: The correct answer was the choice that said something about a change or shift in view. As scientists made more discoveries, they, in turn, learned about their own ignorance and the implications of it.

@stressed: Can you recall the problem, although I do not remember putting that as an answer choice for any of them.

damm i hate knowing what i got wrong on this

i think i have at least 4 wrong in CR right now, 1 in writing, and idk 0? in math

but im sure i got more wrong

i guess its better than being hopeful and then suddenly crushed when the december score reports come out

wait so on the passage section of writing,

what would be the best way to revise the frustration and taking out the bike?

I got “after I became frustrated, blah blah”

and was the moreover, for example, grammar question however, as in after a week, however, i got used to biking?

and the one about “I also find that I am getting stronger”

was that leave as is?

@hanapiano: Same here. I know I got 1-2? wrong in CR, hopefully 0 wrong in math (lifesaver), and a possible -3 to -4 in writing. Your -4 in CR is more desirable than my -4 in writing though, considering the curve :p.

@nightlock ahaha ok

but i wish i lived somewhere that is not CA right now… why the heck are the qualifying scores all different?

for the record, i think we should all allowed to have wyoming’s score and still get national merit (yeah i know there are bound to have issues with that but whatever)

@hanapiano: For the “I also find that I am getting stronger,” it should be in the past tense because if you look at the rest of the passage, past tense is used. Therefore, the correct answer should have been “I also found that I was getting stronger.” For your 1st question, the correct answer was B, which is all I remember :p.

does anyone remember the question for the management/union writing question

@hanapiano: YES, I AGREE. I’m considering moving to Wyoming just so my future kids will have an easier time ;p. There’s no reason that kids in Wyoming need only to get a normal “commended” score and still be NMSFs. I don’t mean to be stereotypical, but realistically, the Asian population in CA drives up the score to a certain extent (not saying that they’re the pure cause). Here in AZ, I have at least a 7 point cushion over your score requirement. (215-216). Best of luck though, and you do have among the best schools in your state ;p.

@azn: N/E was not what I chose, but the majority of people on this site point to that as the correct answer. Hope it helps.

i agree, i remember i only got NE for sunflower

for the argument btwn bittersweet and compelling source of info, im almost positive it was bittersweet because in context the entire passage was about people who are nostalgic about their homeland and how the writer appeals to them because she is going through the same thing and can empathize with them.

@nightlock

ah crap now i definitely feel that i am not getting national merit in CA

now i got at least 2 wrong in writing, at least 4 wrong in CR, and idk about math

excuse while i go cry and curse the world

tears from new jersey…
the cutoff for NJ was a 224 last year…would it be reasonable to assume the cutoff will be around a 226 this year?

so far, i’ve got 1 CR, 2 M, and 0 W wrong. where would that put me score-wise? (according to like the worst curve ever)

@hanapiano: Don’t worry about it. There is still a strong possibility that you did. Statistically, a -2 would place you at a 71, -4 CR would place you at 74, which added together would be a 145. 223-145 = 78. IF you believe you got none wrong in math, NMSF is DEFINITELY NOT OUT OF REACH. Have faith and whatever you get, remember that it won’t influence college decisions. It’s just a test! Now go be happy and hang out with friends and get off this site until December comes rolling around. Do I sound like the sympathetic author of the Indian passage by the way? :p

@jalebigirl: First of all, I honestly have doubts about ANY state having a 226 cutoff in the near future, but to address your concerns, I’ll provide you with a rough sketch of your standing score at the moment. You would receive, according to the worse curve possible, an 80 (obviously) in W, an 80 (1 wrong is still perfect score) in CR, and a 74 in math, for an incredible 234 total. I am very jealous of you at the moment ;p.
