October 2010 - Math II

Post questions, tips, tricks, etc. I'm really hoping for an 800 tomorrow.

Pray man pray. And I’m atheist.

I’m so nervous and I haven’t prepared enough… I’m only hoping for a 600+ score

I got a 750+ last time, and I thought I would take it again just to see if I could do better… I’ve been looking through my Barrons book though and realized I’m pretty much screwed. I haven’t done precal in months – what a waste of $45.

Are you able to take both Math tests on the same day?

@ Bayhawk - yes

hmm…and then pretend your calculator “malfunctioned” during the one that you do poorly on and only get those scores canceled?

Anyone know why lim(x->0) of x^x is 1? Without using L’Hopital’s rule.

because any number ^0 = 1

I’m freaking out! I went through my whole book and only took one practice test so far. I’m worried I will run out of time or get stuck on questions I knew the answer to in precalc, but forgot now…

@3coolcats: 0 is an exception to that rule
@eagertolearn: Consider taking in November?

ahh, I don’t know then. Is it an exception only because technically 0^0 isn’t “1”?

A limit isn’t asking what the y value is AT at a certain x value, it’s just asking for what the y value is approaching. So even though 0^0 might not equal 1, the limit of 0^0 is approaching 1. That’s the only other explanation I can think of.

A few of my tips:

-Mow down the beginning problems as quickly (and accurately) and possible, and save as much time as you can for the harder problems later on.

-If you can eliminate at least 1 answer, then probability is on your side if you guess. At least, that’s what my review books claim.

-Use the calculator as needed, but don’t abuse it. In addition, if you’re waiting for your calculator to finish graphing something, use that time to look ahead at the next problem(s).

-Don’t freak out if you don’t know a lot of the stuff in the Barron’s book. Barron’s is generally considered to be much harder than the real thing.

-Check your answers if you finish early. I think that everyone here would do this already, but I’m just throwing it out there.

i keep getting mixed responses on the accuracy of sparknotes. my five test scores on there were 640, 630, 630, 680, 680. that was truly alarming to me; precal/trig is my finesse and ive been studying for about two months! my head is hot in stress for tomorrow morning, because i came into this thinking i could get 750 range if i tried. oh well. someone say something to optimize my outlook.

Do we need to memorize sum and diff formulas and trig identities?

Having identities rehearsed will help, though I only remember using tan = sin/cos extensively.

Numerically solve it: right and left hand limits.

.9999^.9999 is pretty much 1
1.000001^1.000001 is pretty much 1

thus lim must equal 1

he asked for the limit of 0 not 1

How were your exam all? I have given sat2 math, today.I am bit disappointed cuz I think I haven’t done well…:(

What were the hardest problems for you Bulgea?
