October 2011 - Math Level II

do schools even accept december sat scores??

Hey guys, can anyone confirm if that weird thing was a periodic function or not lol I said no

Also, I got this one wrong(lol i felt soooo stupid afterwards), but absolute value question is 0 BECAUSE THERE WAS A NEGATIVE SIGN BEFORE THE 2ND SIDE OF EQUATION. FACEPALM.

Btw, why were the middle questions so time-consuming…

It all depends on whether 0 is considered even or neither!! I think I left it…coz it was too hard to decide between 2 and non periodic!

0 is definitely even but what’s that have to do with anything? gah and for the abs value question i hope i didnt change the answer. i had it right…

If its even then the function is periodic coz it goes from 1/2 to -1/2 just like a cos and sin graph and its period would be 2!! Hence -infinity,…-4,-2,0,2,4,6,8…infinity would all have a value of 1/2 meaning the function repeats itself after every 2 units!!! And they specified integers so no rational numbers!!

@xylophage: Yeah, this test was harder than I expected it to be. I skipped 3, missed 2 (at least)…

^i thought they specified it so that it was 0 for all non-integers… so its just 1/2, 0, -1/2, 0, 1/2

btw, I skipped 5 and definitely missed 1-2(probably more lol)

In that case won’t it still be periodic?? Its still repeating in between integers?? it will be 1/2, 0, -1/2, 0, 1/2, 0…See the first two and last two repeating again…that makes it periodic and because theres a gap of two before it repeats its period is 2!!

Formal definition
“In mathematics, a periodic function is a function that repeats its values in regular intervals or periods.”

CompSciGeek is correct. For example, the tangent graph is a periodic function even though it is not a connected graph.

Therefore, the answer is 2 to the periodic question.

And so i got it wrong :frowning: whyyyyyyyy

I learned from my experience with the SAT Math II in June. I was getting High 700s-800s on practice tests (including official collegeboard one) and then I go to take test. I ended up skipping 10 because I ran out of time. I canceled my score because I knew it wouldn’t be good and because I knew I could do better. So this time I prepped with barron’s and the RUSH book. I took two more official ones and got 800s on both.

So knowing that the actual test would be hard, I went in with a I’M GOING TO SPEED THROUGH THIS attitude lol. I ended up skipping 2 and so far I think got 1 wrong.

This test was definitely easier than the one I took in June though…

Sorry for double post, but I took this and I’m a sophomore… What year of high school are you guys?

I’m a sophmore too, thought I was the only one. Why are you taking it in 10th grade?

As I’m in AP Calc and just finished PRe-calc last year, I thought i had to take it fast before I forgot all of it. I was never good at taking tests. I didnt do very well on this one because of the problem everyone had of “feeling like it was easy at beginning then was suddenly really time-consuming” and also because of silly mistakes(trapezoid, periodic, abs value)

Yeah same here. I think most of the people saying that this test was easier than an earlier one are just saying that because this is their second try… oh well we have three years to get it right

Could someone clear up the uncertainty over the <5 probability question? I don’t remember it myself, but was the answer .8 or .9?

.9, there are 10*10 possible outcomes, and the only ones that result in five or less are 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 1-4, 2-1,2-2,2-3,3-1,3-2, and 4-1. Thats ten. so (100-10)/100=.9

I got .9, but Im sure thats wrong lol
