October 2011 - Math Level II

ah i know it was an early question but does anyone remember the question that gave you a function and said for what value of x is there a minimum? I might have the wording wrong but the answer was where the minimum occurred (at what x value) and not what the actual minimum was, correct??

-2 tenchar

Not sure if these are controversial still, I only read up to p16
Confident I’ll get 800 though, so take this for what it is worth.

f(g(x)) was the one that was over 4

I said non-periodic (not sure about this)

the area under the curve WAS GREATER than 7.92. 7.92 assuming straight sides, however 4-x^2 doesn’t have straight sides, does it. I used integrals and went with 8.07 or whatever it was.

^I hope to god your right. My 800 depends on those 2 questions

You’re right about the first one, the second one has a period of 2, and the third one was are of the trapezoid. The 8.13 was there to catch those people who tried to find the height graphically, since they would choose 2.5 instead of 2.435

@aussietechie, if I remember correctly the question asked specifically for the area of the trapezoid ABCD, so it did have straight sides. The answer was 7.something, using the area of the trapezoid formula and finding the height (the height was the y value where the line BC intersected the parabola)

the probability one is .8, it asked for >5, not less then, or > or equal to.

Skipped 4, 4 wrong (at least)…41 raw score…which would be a max 780 right? Is that bad for top schools? Should I retake? Not bad enough to cancel though, right? Unless I missed a ton that I didn’t even know about (silly mistakes)… aiya

@noragon i put y-x=6

5 wrong 1 omit? what would the score be?

what do you think is the highest score I can get if i got ~30 correct, missed ~3, and left ~what’s left blank?

@hello haha dammit I went the hard route and got it wrong. (because I wasn’t careful enough reading the q)
I’m thinking 2-4 wrong, and I know 0 omits.

I just wanted to point out that awhile ago chloee was posting an answer to the post office question that is wrong. It was actually a really simple question. One person was 2 miles away going 5 mph and the other was 4 miles away going 10 mph. Since distance/speed=time, 2 miles/5 mph=.40 hours=4 miles/10 mph, which means they will both meet at the post office in exactly .40 hours.

Would the equidistant one be y+x =6. Since every point is equidistant, it has to be a circle where the radius is the same.

I omitted 7 and I think I got 7 wrong. I think I should cancel my score…

@Collegebound32: I think you misread the question. One person was 2 miles away going 5 MPH in the OPPOSITE direction of the post office.

what was the answer to the question where it gave you a triangle and said tanV=.39 and tanY=.71 (i cant remember the actual numbers from the test but for identifying purposes i just put those numbers in :P) and it asked for the angle of X??
i believe the answer choices were:
40 something
79
102
103
and something else
does anyone remember?

Oh I calculated the degrees for each of them the angle is obtuse (according to the drawing). I’m calculated around 100.1 or something? so I put down 100. If not that and it was like 100.9, I put down 101.

5 wrong 1 omit??

seriously??? darn, what do u think an omitted 6 and 3 wrong would be?
