October 2011 - Math Level II

and whats a 5 skippd 2 wrong raw score?

I skipped 7 and probably got like 5 wrong

Did any of you get the f(g(x)) question towards the end?

^ No. But I marked (g(x))^2)/4.

to: lacamotif

The height of the trapezoid should be the y coordinate of 1.25 (=1/2 of 2.5=1/2 of the top base of the trapezoid). To find this y-coord you need to do 4-1.25^2=2.4375. I’m guessing you estimated the height from the diagram instead (and that’s why you got 2.5 instead of 2.4375). The area of the trapezoid is thus 1/2(2.4375)(2.5+4) = 7.92.

^ Agreed. 7.92

i also put what tazil said, but i believe there was a 3 in front of the g. not like it matters because there was only one with a denominator of 4.

what you guys get for the one with multiples of 3 and 6 and 18 or something along those lines. i think i narrowed it down to 24 and 81 but i didnt realize i skipped it

3 wrong 5 skipped now… what’s that bring me to? ■■■

I, too, got 120 for the answer to the similar cones one.

I did it using ratios: since the cones are similar and the radii and the heights are both in a ratio of 1:2, the volumes will be in the ratio of 1:2^3 = 1:8, so the volume of the big one will be 8(volume of the small one)=8(15)=120.

What’s the score for skipped 1, 49 correct?

Collegebound, I do remember a question along the lines of 3, 6, 18… can you tell me more about it so I can remember which one it was? :D

NspiredOne, I think that would still be around 740-760? Don’t quote me though :p

for anyone wondering about their scores. raw score of 43 is 800, raw score of 33 is 700, everything in between is 1 raw score= 10 points. this can be easily googled.

Answers to some other questions:

There was a question “if sin (theta)=.7134, what’s csc(theta)?”. The answer should be 1/sin(theta)=1/.7143=1.40

The polar equivalent of (1/2, -root(3)/2) is (1, 5pi/3), which I think was the only one in quadrant IV anyway.

Collegebound-
They wanted a number that was a multiple of 3 AND 6 but NOT 18.
81 is not divisible by 6.
Answer: 24

Does anyone remember the rest of the question with the f(2x)=3x^2?

Also the post office question?

Also how to find the line segment of f(t)=2sint, g(t)=cos(t/2) between points (0, f(0)) and (pi/2, g(pi/2))? I tried to use the distance formula but I kept getting an answer that wasn’t in the choices… maybe I misread something.

Omitted 14. I can do all the math, just relatively slowly… Hoping for 700, if not I’ll try a third time. I have a habit of getting anxious and completely forgetting everything halfway through >.<

Tizil7 : are you talking about the recursively defined sequence, where you had to give the (explicit) formula for s sub k?

what did you guys get for the one where you had to find the length of chord AB? The choices were 1, 2, 2sin something, (i can’t remember the rest?)

What’s the raw score if you skipped 1 and 49 correct?

Edit: dzair, it’s 1.
Post office .4

Anyone remember the one about the radio station that asked for an expression for how much the songwriter got every time his song is played?

Yep, hiking. I tried to do that one. But since I was seeing that type of question for the first time, I did get as far as 3, 6, … but couldn’t complete it. So I skipped it :/
