October 2014 ACT discussion thread

I literally think I got 16-17 questions wrong on the sci. Where would that put me? In the negatives? LOL

My Predictions

English
75=36
73-74=35
72=34
71 =33
70 = 32
69=31

Math
60=36
58-59=35
57=34
55-56=33
54=32
53=31
52=30

Reading
40 = 36
39= 35

38 = 34

37= 32
36=31
35=30

Science
38-40 = 36

37=35

36=33
35=32
34=31
33=30

@97college‌ lol more like it’d put you on part with the average act taker (which is basically negative xD)

I personally thought the math was easy but it was harder because it was time consuming, which inadvertently didn’t give us time to check our answers.
@austin23‌ almost 2.5 pages

Does anyone in here think that they did good on that science? If so, what strategy did you use?

@WorkSAT2014 thanks for the reassurance lol. It’s really unfair because I usually get 30+ in all of the other sections; it’s just the science that screws me up.

@WorkSAT2014‌
We are not allowed to discuss questions or answers

@ArmandoB It depends on the form you received thats my understanding and this science test, needed some basic knowledge. I kept the conflicting viewpoint passage for the last and I had 8 minutes for that passage. Guys, how does the curve work?? I’m not getting the curve…

@97college‌ same. 35 35 35 29 with 11 essay on the September one. The only reason I took this was for science and that did not work out at all. Science was awful

And no, there’s a moderator’s note stating that a Google doc is prohibited.

@ArmandoB‌ Don’t read the passages. I know this seems sort of far fetched, but it’s the only way you’ll finish in time. I finished with about 5 minutes left and I didn’t read one of the passages in its entirety, excluding the 4 scientist’s viewpoints one. Most, if not all, require you to just comprehend what a graph or table is saying, and it not the answer is usually very cut and clear in the passage where you can just sort of glance at it. First time I took the ACT in Feb. I used this strategy and got a 35. Usually get 36s on practice tests as well.

I had form 74A, and science was like death.

I read the passages and still finish in time. I actually have trouble answering the questions without first reading the passage

I’ll try that, thanks. My main problem was I spent so much time mastering 5-6-7, and there weren’t any 5 question passages.

In order of decreasing difficulty : Science > Reading > Math > English…

Predict my score?

Worst:
E: -4
M: -4
R: -7
S: -5

Best:
E: -2
M: -2
R: -6
S: -3

I honestly don’t even use 5-6-7 method when it’s possible on science. I tend to do quite well. (35-36 last two times). I just skim the passages, and then on the questions I find the exact evidence from the graph/table. I’m not afraid to write all over the graphs and I double check answers repeatedly. Ignore the big words, they don’t matter.
74A science was only tough because it required a little extra knowledge. Once again, ignoring said big words would help a lot.

@austin23 im using the realistic curve on 19, W:
E 34 , M 34 , R 30 , S 32

C 33

Best:

E 35 , M 35 , R 31 , S 34

C 34

Wow i would love those scores

Right now i have -0 english, -0 reading, possibly -1 science, and -2/3 math
