I currently have a 32 on the ACT and am planning to retake it on the 26th, but I have decided to apply EA (because Ross prefers EA applicants). Now on the website it states the October tests will not make it in time but can I send it anyway? Will it be considered?
Of course, I cannot give you a definitive answer since I’m not in the admissions office, but my answer would be no. Once you submit your app on or before 11/1, your app is locked. And any scores submitted after that date won’t be considered for the EA decision, which will come the week before Xmas.
Now, if you’re a) deferred during EA or b) accepted to your home school (LSA, CoE, etc.) and are waiting for your Ross Preferred decision, then I would definitely notify either via a LOCI or a email to the AO about your new higher ACT score. I don’t think sending the score electronically will have any impact on your admissions decision.

Yes. Why? Last year’s Ross decisions were released on or around 2/1, 3/1 and 4/1. I didn’t see any posted on the 4th and final date of Ross decisions, which was 4/15-ish. The RD deadline is 2/1, so submitting your Ross app during RD wouldn’t be advisable, since it’s really late in the Ross Preferred decision process. There were only 447 slots available for freshman in the Class of 2022, so those slots are filled rather quickly with EA decisions and the first couple of RD releases. Thus, EA submission for a Ross preferred admission is highly advisable.
Thanks for all the help! Here’s to hoping I atleast get deferred!
That’s not correct. Here’s the official reply from U-M Admissions:
"October ACT or SAT and Early Action
Q> If I plan to take the ACT or SAT in October, will those scores arrive in time to complete my application for Early Action?
Typically, the results from the October ACT or SAT will NOT arrive in time to complete an application for Early Action. If you have previously taken the ACT or SAT and are taking the test again in October, we strongly recommend that you send in your previous scores to ensure that the scores are received in time to complete your application. Once your October tests have been received, we will add the new information to your application."

It’s important that you follow the above instructions. Send in your current score now to ensure your place in EA. Then send in your October score when available. Michigan will add your new score to your application.
Thank you for the correction.
Most schools have this rule. The key take away is to send in the scores to “complete” the application. This simple rule gets overlooked for EA.
Just to add Michigan doesn’t super score BUT they will look at all scores sent. Think of it as superscore - light.
Thanks, this is making me feel better about my chances already
Is it important for me to rush my scores?
Would you suggest I send another test with a 2 pt higher science score then? Or will the self reporting be fine?
From how I read that passage on the UMich website, rushing your scores may not matter. Just says send them when they’re available.
But if it were me, and I’m one who rushed scores to some schools for my kid a couple years ago, I’d send them as fast as you can assuming you can afford the extra rush fee. In my head, the more time that passes, the more time your app goes from one “pile” to another “pile.” But I’m OCD from WAY back.
I’d hold off sending any more scores until you have your October ACT results back. Then make your decision.
ok thanks for the replies
