Odds for Columbia

Hey guys!

Junior here, looking at my prospective colleges. Whatdya guys think my odds are for Columbia?

I go to a pretty competitive private school in NJ, the Pingry School.

(I haven't taken the SATs yet, in Jan actually but I'm averaging around here)
SAT: 2200-2300
SAT II: chem, 760
PSAT: 234 with National Merit Scholar Award
(I have around an A- average on my most recent interim grades, although my transcript shows me as an average A - A+ student.)
GPA: 4.0 official transcript with Honor Roll
AP's: psych, bc calc, english (lang and lit), us history

Sports wise:
I've done Taekwondo for 6 years, have a blackbelt, and am an instructor at my dojo
I've done JV tennis for 3 years and will likely play varsity for my senior year

ECs:
I am an alumna of CRS, a really selective international youth leadership camp. One of 60 chosen girls worldwide.
I'm a part of the school's multicultural club
I volunteer at my grandparents senior center and at a farm that grows food to feed the hungry
I volunteer around my town for local township events (not sure if its an EC?)

This summer, I have two choices. Ideally I'm applying for TASP (telluride), and would love to go if I get in. However, since it is HIGHLY selective, I've already secured an internship at the UN through my family.

I'm planning on entering the Ayn Rand essay competition and have won a few essay awards at my school.

Hopefully for my app I can create a 'leadership/diversity' angle along with grades and SAT.

Any thoughts?

Your grades/SAT are within range. Is CRS an activity you have to pay uber amounts of money for? If so, its probably looked down upon in college admissions…

You need something that connects your application. Right now I see a lack of passion.

If you get a good SAT score, write awesome essays (start NOW lol), and find something your passionate about then your chances increase exponentially. Columbia will still remain a reach though, as its a reach for everyone (but you’ll have as much of a chance as any other competitive applicant). So fine more top schools that you’re interested in and I’m sure you’ll get in somewhere :p

No, CRS is completely merit based, no fees at all. So that should help I hope.

Hrm, as for passion, thats a fair point. What would you recommend in combination with the ECs that I have that could show that? Like I said, I was thinking some sort of leadership/diversity thing, and I’m hoping the UN or TASP summer work will put me over the top.

Bump. Anyone else? :)

Your EC’s are nothing stellar… Scores are great. Apply, you might get lucky!

Would you mind chancing me?

Any recommendations on ECs I could take this summer or throughout the year, then? And sure! :)

Your scores are great but you need to improve your EC’s. Great job!

Solid chances! Nice stats and ecs! Just write a good essay. Good luck!
Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?p=15268935

Got my SAT scores!

How does a 2300 sound?
