Hi,
I’m currently a newly admitted freshman for the class of 2021 and I’m looking at some off-campus apartment housing options. I’m currently between University Village Towers (3x3L apartment) and Sterling Highlander (3x3 apartment). If anybody who has lived or is living at either apartment complex can give me some info on which one is the better housing, it would be great. If you aren’t a resident of either apartment complex, but have knowledge of them anyways, then still feel free to give your option. Thanks for the advise!
I don’t live in those apartments, but I hear a decent amount about them from friends. Here’s what I more or less what I know:
UVT:
pros:
-Closer to UCR than Sterling
-Closer to UV (University Village) than Sterling, which has restaurants and the like
cons:
-Cheaper(?) than Sterling but also still expensive
-Right next to the freeway. If you have one of the few rooms directly next to it, could get noisy
Sterling:
pros:
-Very nice apartments overall
-Outside of Stater Bros, easy grocery access
-Used to be outside of K-mart but they closed down, rumors of a Walmart opening where it was before?
cons:
-Expensive. If this is not a concern, go for it
-Far from UCR - I know they advertise “just 3 blocks away” but that adds up pretty quickly. Expect at least a 25-30 minute walk everyday to and back unless you choose to bike or drive.
-Area outside of it slightly ghetto, would recommend doing google streetview on the area around it and you’ll know what I mean. You probably won’t have to worry about your safety too much unless you like walks at 2 am.
