Off-Campus Housing (Westwood/UCLA)

Okay, so, first of all... is anybody else using craigslist and getting NO responses back? I've emailed tons of people who posted up housing and only TWO replied and only one set an appointment for a viewing. FTW?! Perhaps my name is unattractive. Whatever.

Second, how NECESSARY is air conditioning in Westwood?
(Where I live it gets up to the high 90s and hundreds during the summer. I've had central air my entire life and it scares me to live somewhere that doesn't have it... especially in LA!)

Thanks.

hmm… sophie sounds an attractive name for me…

well I think the air conditioning is a must due to the weather out there…

good luck on craiglist…( I saw some with crappy stuffs)

Ah, man. Some of the older houses right next to the school don’t have air conditioning. I can’t afford any of the upscale apartments. =(

There are a decent number of listings for Westwood on westsiderentals.com, so you might try that. I actually found the place I’m about to rent on Craigslist, but I didn’t really have trouble getting people to reply…make sure you’re viewing the latest listings and sorting out the spam - there are quite a few fake listings, but you can usually spot them fairly easily (prewritten text in images, 4 bedrooms for $1000, etc.)

The place I’m renting is a nice 1 bedroom but doesn’t have A/C. You’re going to want either a few decent fans or a small, portable A/C unit. Central air isn’t -necessary- and a lot of the places in Westwood don’t have it, but you’ll definitely want -something- for the summer.

are you guys going to get an apt within walking dist or driving dist.
cuz the traffic there is horrible…

I’m sort of on the corner of Le Conte and Levering, but most of my classes will probably be in north campus, so I’ll likely have to drive over there (or bike or something if I’m feeling particularly energetic).

hmmm… wut the price for that location, heh?

There’s a campus shuttle that leaves every 5-20minutes just south/north of where you’re at and it’ll take you straight into campus(free of course).

Sopheee
I have a studio available for rent in Santa Monica, about 5 miles away from school. If you’re interested. $700/month with all utilities included.

over 9000.

most of the properly priced & decent studios/1 bedrooms right around the school are $1200-1500. shouldn’t really be paying more than that unless it’s some kind of luxury flat…i drove by a few that were even closer to the school and had signs in front and they were like $1700…for a studio… :O

just looked at a map…you mean the express at like gayley and weyburn? that might work, since it goes straight up into north campus. thanks :]
