Offer of appointment package

As all hurdles seem to be cleared, we are wondering what is in the offer of appointment package? I have heard a reply card. Anything else? Once it is sent in, what happens then? Any confirmation or just packets of info?

i wish good colleges would send class of 2010 t-shirts... then you could wear them to school the next day and indirectly brag.

2 letters, a reply card, and this black folder thingy

once you receive your appointment and mail back your acceptance cards, you will receive information on an almost monthly basis- more forms to fill out, boot issue, how to set up banking, etc. Pretty straight forward as long as you stay on top of it.

I just got one, not much to it.

I'm sure the bulk of info will arrive as more people are appointed and it is mailed out en mass.

What is the deal with boots? My understanding is we are given credit at the nearest PX to buy them. When is the earliest we can go buy them?

pretty sure you can buy them right now.

You won't receive a "credit" to purchase boots, only a letter allowing purchase from a military clothing sales store.

If you buy them now, and they think that they fit when they're issuing you uniforms, your account won't be charged for them and you'll end up getting that money when you get your Yuk Year topoff.

Did you guys notice that there was only the option of accepting the appointment on the reply card? Since I already accepted at USNA I had to write back a letter with my regrets.

I noticed that too. However, I think all college acceptances are like that. If they don't hear from you by may 1st then I guess they assume your not going. However for the academies, it is good to send a rejection to their acceptance because it opens up a place for another candidate.

You will receive a letter authorizing you to go to a nearby base and purchase your boots, shoes, etc. I would not go buy them until you receive that letter as it will spell out specifically what and how many pairs of each you need to get. As I remember the letter was sent sometime in May.

The final decision about boot style for 09 seemed to delay the boot purchase letter last year and concerns about having them with enough time to condition the feet started to appear on Prospective Net. The reason Cadet Candidates are encouraged to purchase and break in boots prior to R Day is important to remember.

It is not so critical that a Cadet Candidate show up with a pair of boots but that they show up with feet/shins conditioned and ready to handle the summer. When it looked like the regulation boots were difficult to find last Spring, CCs were encouraged to buy a boot and get the feet ready, even if they ended up NOT taking that particular pair of boots to R Day.

Boots will be issued, conditioned feet will not. ;-)

"If they don't hear from you by may 1st then I guess they assume your not going. However for the academies, it is good to send a rejection to their acceptance because it opens up a place for another candidate."

In the Instructions for Candidates Offered Admission booklet (mailed after the intial offer of appointment folder) there is a card (#7) to mail back if you are declining the appointment. AS jq722 says, they request prompt notification so that another candidate can be offered admission.

so its desert boots right? shame. i got two pairs of black ones broken in and with layers of polish a centimeter high. well, maybe not that high.

i didn't get a hard copy of a boot letter in the mail yet, but there is a link on my candidate website for one. there's also some contact info stuff you have to fill out, as well as how to size yourself for uniforms. it makes me exciiiiiiiiited :)

My son just received the instuction booklet and forms to fill out if admitted, but no letter or folder of acceptance.

Did the acceptance letter arrive by regular mail or UPS?

Anyone else receive the other packet first?

We received a call yesterday from our congressperson who told us he was admitted.

Son's acceptance letter/folder came USPS priority mail - he received it about a week before the instruction booklet. I'm sure your son's letter will arrive soon; give it a week, if it doesn't arrive contact the admissions office.
