Yup they will. Hopefully they are leaving one open for me because with the recent events my application has been put on the back burner at my command. Yay me, not so much. Fortunately the military is a universal place and they understand that my boat has fallen on hard times. I just hope I can get everything done in time and it is enough to get me in. And even funnier is that I will probably be out at sea when I find out if I got an appointment or not. I guess I should tell them I am garaunteed to accept it. Hmm ya never know. Oh well I hope everyone is doing well and things are going your way. Know that I am doing better and learning to cope with things on a day by day basis. Best Wishes!

It was not a nomination. He already had his nomination. This is notification from two MOC about an impending APPOINTMENT.

Dad2b, a USNA alum told me maybe I should tell them that they filled two appointment slots with one candidate in case they want to give it to the next in line. I guess if I don't say anything they may figure it out.
Oh well.

Navymom-
I know what you are trying to say. I felt the same way at first--like you were taking more than your share of nominations. The Academy will choose one of the nominating sources to use for your child. It gives them some play room. If they want someone in they will find a nomination for them. Many kids have several different nominating sources. Only one is used.

that is very true. I have a nomination from two sources. Secnav and Presidential. They will sort it all out. I will most likely take a presidential if I get in because that is an unlimited category. But that is for the Academy to figure out, not me.

Presidential is not an unlimited category. I hear they are supposed to give 100 Appointments on Presidential Noms but it can vary each year.

The number of nominations is unlimited the number they can appoint is limited to 100 per class which they don't always meet. They typically have 450 or so candidates receive Presidential Noms and appoint somewhere around 75 or so.

Navymom2b: Simma down, simma down. You have a long way to go.

It is possible that a source of confusion, vis-a-vis your post, is that it doesn't seem ordinary that a MOC would notify you about an * appointment *. Once the MOC * nominates * a person, that office is effectively no longer involved.

Your post states that MOC office notified you of an impending appointment; this notification typically comes from the Academy.
In any event, the Academy has been doing this a long time and personnel there are very capable of making sure that every possible slot is filled. No other candidate will be denied entry if a slot is available.

Bill0510- Actually, USNA by policy, gives MOC's 3-day advance notice on appointments to allow them to make the call to the candidate before the appointment letter arrives. Some MOC's take advantage and others don't.

Some MOC's want to know when/if you accept/decline the appointment, others seem to not care. In any case, it is USNA that deals with shuffling nominations/appointments (in concert with MOC's in some cases, I'm sure) as accept/decline declarations are received.

Maybe it depends on your state and local Congressperson. I do know several appointees who were notified by their MOC, via a telephone call, prior to receivng official notification from one of the academies; while others did not learn of their appoitments until notified by the school....

Congrats navymom2be ... hang in there cause from my experience the confusion only increased from that time of receiving the appointment, followed by the volumes of paper work that needed to be completed before ariving for Indoc, the decision to buy boxers or briefs, etc.... :)

Thanks, Dad, I had read that same thing, also, that the academy gives the MOC a 3 day lead time to do the honors of notifying the candidate. That is why I understood what was going on when the congressman called to let us know about the appointment. The next day, though, we did get a letter from one senator saying the same thing. I see what you mean about letting the academy sort it out. They will figure it out.
Thanks, too, Prayerful Mom, for the heads up. I thought it would just get easier after the waiting for the appointment was over.
Bill, what is your status? Do you have a child that is a candidate, or has gotten an appointment?

Son is near the end of a very successful Plebe year. I also have other affiliation with USNA.

My response that it is not "ordinary" for MOC to notify of appointment, USNA "policy" nothwithstanding, still stands. Not to say that MOC notification doesn't happen, just that in the wide universe of correspondence it appears * most * [greater than 50%] candidates receive notification directly from the Academy.

If you read my posts, most are not declarative because there are many variations on how issues are resolved by the Academy. The fundamental advice to almost every question is: The Academy knows what it is doing; your son, your daughter, the problem, and/or the apparent mixup will be taken care of a form or fashion that will be appropriate to the circumstances. The resolution might not be in a way that you might handle the problem but it will be resolved nonetheless.

Just sit back and enjoy the ride as well as you can.

While it is possible to receive more than one nomination, the fact remains that, should an appointment be offered, there will be just one- assigned to the candidate's number- not two.

Having said that, it is very possible both nominating MOC's might call to congratuate the candidate upon receiving an appointment.

In such a case, if you look at the candidate's CIS profile, you will see (2) nominating sources listed. What you should not see is 2 candidate numbers listed for the same candidate name. (this can, however, happen- last year our son was listed "twice"- one with his first name, and one with his middle name listed first)- but I assure you the admissions office not only caught the mistake, but called to clarify which one was correct.

As an aside, in highly-competetive areas/states, the candidate is required to notify the MOC offices when more than one nomination is received to the same academy- for example, both NY senatorial offices require such notification. In this regard, nominations from ONE of the sources is recinded and, presumably, offered to someone else (such was our case last year). Most MOC offices confer (at least the ones here do) as to who is offering what to whom, as there are far more candidates than nomination slots.

I highly doubt anyone is given 2 APPOINTMENTS to the same academy-unless the candidate has somehow received 2 different candidate numbers- the only real question, should there be a desire to know, is as to who's MOC slate the appointment is being charged to.

I would agree, try and relax and let the system work- they have been doing it a very, very long time.

Some MOC's just don't care to follow up. My son just got a third nomination from Senator Kennedy (Dated January 31 on CIS) and the letter arrived late last week. Go figure...his appointment letter came through in early January. Senator Kerry on the other hand, checked to see if my son already had a Nom from our congressman before holding interviews back in mid-December. Kerry did not consider my son for a nomination after discovering one was already present.

So it really does end up being a personal thing for the MOC's and/or their staff. Competition for the spots deserves a role here, but I certainly can't say how any particular MOC responds to these things under different circumstance sets.

Relax & enjoy....injuries, slacking off, and acts of stupidity are the most likely threats beyond this point.

Fergs- I'm so sorry to hear about the loss on your boat. My husband was in the silent service for 22 years and it is a small and close-knit family. Do you mind my asking which boat you're on?

Fergs, I'm so sorry to hear your sad news. Take care of yourself. That's such a rough thing to go through. I lost a brother and a dear friend that way. Thoughts and prayers with you.

Well, Jake's BGO emailed him today and said "congratulations"! Wow!!!!!!
He wrote that he should be hearing by mail/or congresswoman any moment because the BGIS said Jake is receiving an appointment...

Way to go! Go Navy!

Oregon Mom....I can't wait for that wonderful moment when you and Jake see that large thick manila envelope in the mail!!! Yipee!!!! Send an email to Peskemom@yahoo.com when you have it so you can be a part of our connections in August at Parent's weekend!!!

Mucho congrats to Jake and you all!!!

Dad2B: so that happened to you too? I got a letter from Kennedy today, giving me a third nomination...and I got my Appointment months ago. After the initial disorganization in his office when apps were due, I just sent everything in, and never heard back from them at all. No interview, just a letter congratulating me on "completing the first step in the admissions process"...jeez, they need some serious regrouping.
