SpiderMD thank you in advance for helping us out. I have gotten an appoinment, but haven't gone on a candidate visit yet so I'm a little clueless about specifics on the academy (went to AF Summer Seminar). I was wondering if you could answer a question for me. What is plebe summer like? I am not a great runner, I had one season in cross country and I'm kinda ify with running... how long is the longest run you guys had to do during plebe summer? How long should I be able to run and at what pace? I have heard diff things from other people, but nothing from a current mid yet. Help is greatly appreciated.

Hey SpiderMD, I from Lubbock also and I talked to you a while back(April?). I remember you having some pretty rediculous athletics and PAE scores, did you have any trouble with the physical side of Plebe Summer?

Dad2B'2010- After high school, I attended the local college here, Texas Tech. I was going to major in Mechanical Engineering. I've found that that time spent at Tech was well worth it. This years academics were extremely easy, and I found myself helping my classmates alot.

SparkleandShine- I was a track runner in High school and slightly at Texas Tech before I got into the academy. I was used to running the short sprints (200 and 400). The running that we did in plebe summer was a lot longer than that (1,2, or 3 mile runs or so) but they were done in a regimental form and it was done at an extremely slow pace. Then on some days we'd do shorter circuit runnings which went something like 200, walk 200, 400, walk 200, 800, walk 200 or something similar. I can't remember what the times were but I ran the mile and a half in just over 9 minutes

texas_falcon- hey man... its Brett right? I thought the physical aspect of the summer was going to be alot harder than it was. If you are a well rounded athlete in any sport you shouldn't have any problem. Best piece of advise I can give would be to find a sport that you love and get into it as soon as they let you during the summer. It'll make the time fly!

Thank you so much!

before too many people read my last post... when i said walk 200... I ment to say jog 200 :)

Why do you think it took you so long to get in? How were your grades and SAT scores?

Navymom2b- I was top 10% of my high school class of 670+ people with a GPA of 4.16 out of 5.0... SAT was 800 Math and 650 Verbal (I'm not sure how it compares to the new scoring)
I was told by my BGO that it was my eye sight... just happens to be 20/75 or so.
When I asked admissions this same question, I could never get a straight answer... so I kept applying.

SpiderMD, you wouldn't happen to be in the Katy area would you? Your stats sound very close to our schools.

hornetguy- I'm actually from Lubbock.

gotcha. Do yall count AP courses as 5.0 for GPA?

Yes, we do.

Curiouis- AP courses as 5.0 for GPA? Does your school also report an "unweighted" GPA then?

Yes, I know mine does. The Weighted is for class rank purposes. At my school, Top 10% is a 4.2 GPA, top half is around a 3.4 GPA. :D
