I haven't seen this thread yet... Hopefully I didn't skim over it. Anyway, what did everybody think of the ACT today?

I thought the test was fairly easy. Math portion however was difiicult at times. I couldn’t answer about five of them.

Did you guys have an extra experimental section on your ACT?

I thought the math was way harder than the april test. anyone agree?

I also thought science seemed to be easier.

Yes, Math and Science both sucked.

My kid thought the science was easier too. In fact all of it except the math.

Science was quite difficult. Reading and English were fairly easy to me. Math was okay, but a lot of trig which I didn’t expect. How about you?

Oh so it had more Trig? My kid took this because there were normally only 4 Trig questions and they were introductory Trig. She hasn’t even had Trig.

Does anyone remember the Form Code (sixty-something) of the June test?

The hard part was definitely math. Everything else was a breeze.

First time taking it and my opinions were:

English I breezed through. Usually on practices I barely finish and sometimes I have to guess on the last couple, but today I had like 5 extra minutes after I finished.

Math was extremely difficult. Usually on practice tests out of the red book I fly through the first 50 and struggle with a couple in the last ten. However today after about problem 40 or so I didn’t even know how to start some questions.

Reading was pretty easy. The first three passages were easy and were quite interesting but the “galaxy” passage at the end put me to sleep.

4.Science was terrible. Started off with the first half okay, second half I bombed.

Writing was easy.

For all those wondering about the diff between SAT/ACT: from my experience, it was much easier. The passages were less dense, and attacking it like an SAT passage or English Lang AP passage made it simple. The math - more difficult concepts, but more straightforward. Having completed Pre-Cal (the last six weeks was a review of the end of algebra II aka logs, sequences and sums, and nonreal numbers REALLY helped) made the geometry extremely doable - the law of sines is MAGIC (makes a 5 min problem take 30 seconds). Reading was a brisk pace, as was Science. Common sense helps the most here - especially from not getting bogged down in the wordiness of the material.

Took a practice ACT last night, did fairly well (low end rice/vanderbilt). Reviewed the concepts I was fuzzy on and totally rocked it this morning.
The ACT is my test, not the SAT - as I have learned this week. 9 months of studying for the SAT versus 1 week for the ACT.

Only drawback - the essay is at the end; your hand hurts and your pencils are dull.

Yea this is my 1st time taking it and my brothers 3rd time. He said they had much more trig than usual.

I had a major time crunch during the reading section and science… Found both of those sections difficult, especially in comparison to Math and English. Essay was totally fine, except my hand got tired.

My D said that E, R, S sections were fairly easy, but that M was not. To place in perspective, on the IL Apr test she scored E (35), M (36), R (28), S (32). She’s obviously strong in math.

As a jr she was in pre-calc. She asked a jr friend, Calc B/C student and also very good in math, what she thought - and she said that she also struggled with the M section.

I’ve just read the comments and it appears as if their experiences in the M section were typical. Question: how does something like this - more kids doing worse in M - get accounted for in M scoring? Does ACT possibly have a curve?

Next question: if she scored lower in M section, the same in E, but higher in R and S - any ideas on how most colleges will consider this? I understand that this is sort of a “super-score” question but some of her top schools do not officially do this. Penn is her top choice and she plans on applying E.D.

She definitely believes that she had top scores (33+) in E, R, and S, but the M section (where she had to guess at 2 questions as the time ended), left her baffled regarding the exam and ME “baffled regarding the” effect for admissions of her two exams.

Any thoughts? Thanks.
