Official 2008 INTEL STS Thread

DS got an packet in the mail from Intel today. Letter, booklet, tax forms, a questionnaire, and certificates to be used to notify colleges, etc. of your "honorable" accomplishment. Certificates can be copied or you can request more. No swag. :(

Oh, yeah -- the letter did confirm they would notify students by phone if they are selected as finalists.

oh cool! We acutally get certificates to sent to college :) that's nice

I was just wondering, should I also call? I am doing some schools with a BA/MD program, so that the schools are actually calling out interviews in 2 weeks.

on Amber's Intel blog, she says shhe was notified of being a finalist on the 26th. Go figure.
uch 2 weeks!!!!!
Does anyone know the criteria for finaists? Anything in specific?

How prestigious is this award and how much does it help college admissions?

There were only two certificates enclosed, but they did say you could copy or request more.

Someone asked about what kind of research folks did -- here'e the pdf with names and project titles...

Congrats and good luck to all the SFs!

Intel/STS blog of a 2006 finalist:

Mr. Solomon Goes to Washington

One of the finalists from 2006 wrote a fairly lengthy paper about her experience....including all of the notifications and activities...but I can't seem to find it on the web...

how did the teachers and parents of these guys find out before the 16th. there must be some amazing high schools in long island.....

Intel science competition names 69 LI semifinalists -- Newsday.com

Would you suggest mailing the letter from Intel as soon as possible, especially for BA/MD programs who are making interview calls soon. Or to wait until the Finalists come out just in case, so you don't mail the school twice?

Thanks.

hey easonh89, I was thinking the same thing. I think I am going to wait until finalist comes out so I dont' have to mail them twice. Also, it's only going to be like 8 more days :D

btw which BA/MD did you do?

one week until phone calls..... or lack therof.....

If my research was where it's at now for the STS, I think I would have had it...oh well.

tealover- I applied to BU, Northwestern, Brown, Stony Brook, RPI (which I already found out I didn't get an interview for), and Washington University. I just got my phone call the other day for BU's interview, so I am nervous that these programs are making their decisions and cuts really soon... I am thinking that I will mail out my packages tomorrow, and if I do get finalist, which I am not to optimistic about, I will email them.

I called Stanford and they said that they get a list of the Semifinalists and Finalists anyways.

cool! I only did Northwestern on your list.

I am acutally not suprised that schools like Stanford has a list ;)

how much do you think being an intel and siemens semifinalist helps for colleges?

hmm well i hope it helps a lot because my test scores are really not that greatest assessment of what i can truly acheive

How do you know "what you can truly achieve?"
I hope it helps a lot too.

did you guys get a giant check from intel? :D

not me. Bu I have been on vacation for the past 2 weeks or so, and will be resuming high school studies on Monday.

lol well i meant more to say something like the test scores don't really represent like what people are capable of

The same logic could be applied to high school science competitions, lol.

(sour grapes lol)
