Official 2008 Yale Transfer Thread

so did they say the mail would arrive around the 15th or be mailed around the 15th

Has anyone gotten requests for more financial aid documents? Also, to those accepted in years past: did you accepted applicants necessarily get their reward information along with their acceptance? I haven't submitted all of the required financial aid documentation yet and I'm wondering whether to take the fact that they haven't asked me for any as a bad sign.

Aren't you past the deadline to submit the financial aid documents?

I got the financial aid reward in the physically mailed acceptance letter, I think. Once you have your netID you can also check the details online (<a href="http://www.yale.edu/sis)%5B/url%5D">www.yale.edu/sis)</a>.</p>

Get your documents in!!! They will probably be lenient on them being late, but who knows.

I've sent them my FAFSA but not the CSS profile because there's a $35 filing fee from the College Board that I can't afford right now on a four-percent admission rate.

Could you call the finaid office up and ask if a fee waiver or some sort of temporary reimbursement is possible? $35 right now is nothing compared to possibly having to pay $50,000 because your finaid application was invalid.

Haha, thanks for your concern buddy but I am in a cross-that-bridge-when-I-get-to-it mentality. As an aside, I've been following this thread for some time and I've read your posts from last year; they are quite inspiring. Have you met anyone from the Admissions Office since coming to Yale, and were they able to tell you what they liked personally about your application?

Yes, and actually I'm meeting with someone tomorrow about making sure a dinner happens between us (last year's transfers) and you guys. The transfer adcoms are very cool people.

As for what exactly they liked, I've no idea. Probably it was a combination of coming from an underrepresented country and all the intangibles in any application. I honestly don't even WANT to know, I'm just happy with having done extremely well despite or in tune with whatever expectations they had when they admitted me.

I mean, everybody wants to believe they were meant to be admitted, that everyone here at Yale was born a Yalie, but it's just not true - admissions is such a random process that I don't want to dwell on how slim the chances actually were of me ending up here.

Hey frrrph.

When you meet with them, could you ask them three questions we're all dying to know the answer to?
(1.) Will domestic applicants get e-mails? If so, when and under what circumstances (is it just admitted applicants)?
(2.) Have letters been sent out yet? If not, when will they be sent out?
(3.) How many transfers were admitted this year?

THAAAAANKS

2) The letters are getting sent out Wednesday. But we may know the results through email before hand

gah

I'd really, really like to know.
Why can't colleges have similar, if not the same, schedules for all of this?!

bleh.

Hey undisclosed, how did you hear that they announced 30 people were accepted this year? You mentioned it earlier in this thread, I think....

The 40 people approximate was mentioned in an article/interview with the admissions folks but it's actually Stanford, not Yale lol. Sorry.

God, there's a chance that the email will hit tomorrow. That we'll wake up and know whether we're going to be at Yale come Fall semester.

Now granted there's one option that's far more likely than the other as results go, but that's still scary exciting.

Well, the Admissions Office from what I know have already made it pretty clear that they weren't emailing applicants. Furthermore, last year frrph was the only CCer who got an email, and I think that was a special case because he was both admitted and an international student. The other poster, yalee, wrote pretty unambiguously before his stats post that he did not get an email from Yale.

Not sure what my detective work is all about....just trying to pacify the rattling nerves I guess.

I'm an international so he's a-hopin'. :)

Hey,

Did anyone from Harvard apply to transfer?

--pb001

I hope not.

Wehave been very patient but I don't know if I will make it until Thursday.

I wonder why they are taking longer this year. Maybe the decisions are not as clear-cut.

any chance we'll get them on the 14th? or is the 15th pretty much it?

oh and sorry for posting excessively. someone tell me to shut up and i promise i will.

Don't worry lol, this is about the only place where we can voice our neurosis without getting a shoe thrown at our heads (in a related note: My siister's a *****). Anywho, i really couldn't tell you. Last year some people had gotten their answers by today's date so we have no basis for comparison really. It could happen at any point from now to Thursday.
