Official 2009 Berkeley Appeals Thread.

err… clarification please?

Hahaha, sex connecting it to female genital mutilation – I related my human rights activism with philosophy and then talked about how I want to be a discipline of John Searle, one of Berkeley’s greatest philosophy professors.

cal posted decisions may 28th, i think, of last year.

Now this thread is getting a little more exciting! It seemed like it was just livefree and I for the longest time!

@ Reaper. I think your appeal grounds sound pretty solid. That uptrend in grades sounds pretty good.

@ s01… do you have an appeal into berkeley?

@ Jenn. That is an interesting angle to take. Would you mind sharing your stats? Gpa/ex-currs/etc.

@ livefree… I remember seeing the same thing you did. So we should know this Thur/Fri…

Ahhhh the suspense is killing me.

yes, we should know this week… fingers and toes crossed! but, if not, davis is a great school anth, we should both be proud.

@ anth

Yep I appealed to Berkeley. We should make a list of those who are appealing.

anth8541,

I’ve been lurking at all the Cal appeal threads… I don’t want to talk about my appeal and get my hopes up because getting accepted [through an appeal] is so slim. (I suppose the part of not talking about it is out the window now…)

Anyway, I have a 3.5, probably a 3.4 now. Member of Amnesty International San Diego Hillcrest chapter along with vice president and secretary of treasure of Political Science Society at Miramar College. Planned Parenthood volunteer, advocating women’s rights. I also participate in many human rights protesting throughout California. If it’s not clear enough, but I hang out on the left side of the political spectrum.

I’m an admitted student to UCLA for this fall… I love the school, but I hate the city and want to get out of Southern California and Cal is my only way out. of. here.

I hate to say this, but I really think Berkeley focuses more on grades point average. I’ve taken 8 courses of philosophy and know someone that took only ONE and got in! He had 3.7 gpa though… I’m declaring myself very bitter.

Jenn,

First off you sound like you have a lot going for you. Being the VP and secretary of the polsci society sounds like a pretty impressive feat. The best of luck to you.

As far as Berkeley focusing on GPA I am skeptical. I had a 3.94 GPA as a transfer applicant which as I understand is on the high side. I also met all the prereqes, igetc etc etc, and had a lot of extra curics etc… so who knows lol.

If you can’t tell I’m pretty disappointed. Hence the appeal  We’ll see how it goes :)

Emm… Perhaps it’s by major? Oh wells. We shall wait and be hopeful. I am preparing myself for the worst, which isn’t THAT bad considering since I’m already there.

I wonder if we can call and ask why we weren’t accepted. I know they said not to, but that was during the peak of acceptance/rejection period of announcements.

Hmm… Hopefully we will just have to call to submit our SIR  A guy can be hopefully can’t he? :)

I think Jennnn sounds like she owns. Get It Girl! ;)

Evan,

You are so funny. I’m going to Blackberry message you right now!

Lol jenn… looks like you’ve got a fan!

anth8541,

Of course, Evan’s a fan of mine. He and I are friends outside of college confidential. Haha.

jennnn,

If you hypothetically got a spring admit to Berkeley, would you (without a doubt) take that over fall admit to UCLA?

I’m a philo major too and sent my SIR to Berkeley for the spring 2010 over fall UCLA.

I don’t think I will. This past semester, I was only in school part time and went crazily bored. Hence if I don’t get into Berkeley for fall, I’m moving to L.A. early July so I can get situated and attend UCLA’s last summer session. [I wanted to take summer school at my local junior colleges, but I’ve already taken all the philosophy courses offered.]

I tend to breathe off of learning.

If you could, cougar lover. Please take courses with John Searle and tell me how his lectures are!

I shall try to! =)

Man you guys know the profs by name! That’s gangsta!

Don’t be too impressed. I only know names of philosophy professors and nobody else. Haha.
