I know my GPA is low. What are my chances?

I have quite an interesting story.
Started off at Rutgers University with such a explosion of failures in academics that I ended up beating myself up after finding out I need to sit down and focus. My GPA at Rutgers was around 1.8, and ended up leaving the school. My parents were literally on the edge of kniving me, but after a few conversations and prayers, I decided to try my best at De Anza.

Started at De Anza College in 2009, I began to like business and art courses, started bringing up the GPA with courses that I loved and enjoyed. I also began pursuit in internships and volunteer services at my church to engage in activities that suit my interest in business.

Now, I have a 3.3GPA with pretty much just Calculus to finish up. Of course, being that most students here have an awesome GPA of 3.6 and above, I was wondering if I had a chance at any of the schools I’m transferring too?

What are my chances?
:O

Hekto: You’re in for sure in UCI and UCSC. Did you TAG into UCSB? If not, you probably won’t get in… (UCSB is super unpredictable so who knows, hopefully I’m wrong…)

Lets see if anyone can do this one (my younger bro’s stats)…

Major: Chem Engr (applying to UCB as chem engr & materials)
GPA: 3.54

The only school he actually cares for is UCB but i know that UCB has an ultra competitive especially at chem e… So if anyone knows anything about cal’s chem engr program, any input for my bro would be helpful. Thank you in advance.

Yeah, low GPA…no excuses here. Probably just going to my local csu but hey might as well see my chances for the lower tier UCs right?

ScYro: Yeah you should get into at least 2 of those 3 UC’s.

Applying to: UCB
Transferring from: UCSD (uc to uc transfer
Major: EECS

Also, I will have completed around 160 by the end of spring quarter even though this is my second year in college. (100 at ucsd. 36 from APs, 24 from cc) Anyone give me a chance?

EC: Volunteered +100 Hrs at a hospital, work part time

I have 47 Units completed, taking 18 units this semester

@Godbreath

I would say you have a 35% chance of getting in. UC to UC doesn’t fly by well, but your GPA is pretty high and you are maintaining EC’s on top of that

@ Scyro

I would say you have a very very good chance of getting into merced and riverside.

65% chance for UCSC

dash: Did you do any TAG’s? If not, you absolutely need to raise your GPA above a 3.0 by the end of Fall semester for UCSD, UCSB, and UCI to even consider granting you admission. If you can raise your GPA above a 3.0, I think you’ll get into two of the three schools I mentioned earlier (and I’m pretty sure you’ll be granted admission into UCSC even if you don’t get above a 3.0)

Applying to UCLA (did TAG’s to UCSD and UCD, but UCLA is my number 1 pick) for a Physiological Science Major.

Current GPA: 3.42
EC’s: President of Indian Club @ my college, English Professors paid teacher’s assistant, tutored for English on campus for two quarters, Volunteer at Kaiser Hospital, Research assistant at NASA Ames in a biology lab

Could someone please tell me what my chances are for UCLA, considering my GPA and EC’s? Thanks so much!

I did this before, but I have quite a few updates since then - particularly GPA and EC changes. Applying from California CC:

Schools: UCB, UCLA, UCSD
TAG: Accepted to UCD, UCSB, UCR so far
Major: Political Science
Prereqs: Complete by Spring 2011
IGETC: Complete by Spring 2011
GPA: 3.91 (Expected to drop to 3.75 after Fall)
EC: Internship for Congresswoman during re-election campaign, Honors program

Chances? Particularly for UCB. Thanks!

UC-UC transfer from Santa Cruz to Berkeley:

Major: EECS (Comp. Eng. at UCSC)
GPA: 3.83 (from first year)
Units: anywhere between 133 and 139 quarter units by the end of Spring.
Level: Junior or senior transfer? :\ Currently a second year.

Pre-reqs: Mostly all met, not sure about English or a natural science.

ECs: internship at a tech company, working for math dept. faculty, university wind symphony, on a university sports team. Have volunteered and done a ton of random ECs in high school - do these count?

Honors: Dean’s list every quarter, B of A Foreign Language Award, Sousa Award, won a few solo competitions…

@ xferr and huiggityhuy, I think you both have great chances!
I was wondering about my own chances for UCLA. I want to major in “Linguistics and Psychology”…
My GPA is a 4.0, with plenty of A+'s. I’m a CCC transfer and I will have the IGETC completed by the end of Spring 2011. I have mediocre EC’s, including tutoring, Dean’s list… I started college a quarter late (I’ll only have 5 quarters of CCC when I transfer) due to illness. I’m able to achieve the unit requirement because of AP credits and a greater than average course load. I’ll have like 100-105 units after Spring.
The problem is that I can’t complete all pre-reqs because the courses of “Into to Cognitive Science” and “Research Methods in Psychology” are not offered at my CCC anymore… Will this be a problem? I’ll have the linguistics course, intro to psych course, psychological stats course, 1 year of a foreign language and 2 years of another foreign language completed though.
What do you guys think my chances are?

@deanzatransfer

That 4.0 looks great. I don’t think you should have much trouble getting into any of the UCs as long as you explain your credit amount and inability to take certain pre-reqs in your application. (Under additional information would probably be appropriate.)

I went to De Anza for summer school! Whoo DA! Hate the parking Nazis there, though.
