@ Tony: As much as I’d love to say that nobody is ever a lock/guarantee and all that, to be perfectly honest, you’re a lock.

@ regent: I think you’re in at Berkeley. Peace & Conflict Studies isn’t super hard to get into, and as long as your essays are good, I’d say you definitely have a good chance.

@taylorj: You’re in at all of them as long as you have all your prereqs done.

@Pinoiako916: I went to SMC and I completed the first semester of a two semester calc based physics sequence. I contacted UCLA and they said this is absolutely okay as most science majors don’t take physics until junior year at ucla anyways.

Sooo, since I am only taking the first half, I have to take two more physics classes at UCLA. I don’t have to take Physics 6A, but I do have to take 6B and 6C at UCLA.

nero103 is correct, for the most part psych is a social science. However, some schools, such as UCSD, offer a B.A. in Psych AND a B.S. in Psych. If you go for the B.S. Psych program then you have to take bio, chem, physics and calc

GPA/Academic History
Cumulative - 3.83 (2 B’s)

Prerequisites
All Completed - A’s in both econ classes and English class, B in calc classes (my only B )

TAP CERTIFIED

IGETC completed by end of Fall 2010. Will be TAP-certified.

EC/Soft factors
Intern at a small financial firm(i now work there), started my own basketball camp for kids, wrote an application for cell phones, Honors program, Tutoring in Econ and Math, Summer volunteer for kids reading program, Earned money doing Affiliate marketing(online marketing for different companies).

@AAW000: Do you have an alternate major by any chance? Econ is damned competitive at UCLA, but I would think you have a running chance. If you’ve got a non-impacted alternate major that you’ve finished the prereqs for, I would say you’re in.

@Pinoiako916: Yes, in fact my major at UCLA, Psychobiology, is considered part of the “Life Sciences” and a popular pre-med major.

That said, Psychologists are not M.D.s, they are pH.Ds. Psychiatrists, however, are M.D.s who graduate from medical school just like any other Doctor of Medicene.

You can absolutely have a career in the health sciences with a psychology degree but there will almost certainly be other science related pre-reqs.

@tonypremed2013 science pre-reqs for health science majors like one year gen chem, one year o chem, one year physics, and one year calc and one year biology majors

Yes, exactly. If, however, you are interested in both Psychology and a career in health sciences I would highly recommend trying to find a school that offers either a Psychology B.S. or a Psychobiology B.S.

This way you can study Psych while simultaneously knocking out your health science pre-reqs.
