@ redoplease. yeah sometimes i look back and regret not just going to UCLA because i would have already graduated by now (from a really good school too), but at the time my heart was really set on going to berkeley. we’ll see what happens this time! thanks for the imput.

@Andrizzle thanks for the reply – any one else have some advice? Thanks all!

Does Cal look into your course load as well?

Is it a major factor?

hope it is

@talebi818 - i think whats just as important is how you do with your heavy courseload. if you get all As in 7 or 8 classes in one quarter then that would be really great. if you start getting Bs and Cs…prolly not so much.

GPA 3.2 (hopefully 3.3 by the end of fall)
One more math class to complete IGETC which I will be done with this fall
English Major

Planning on applying to UCD, UCSB, UCI, UCSC, maybe the others just for the hell of it.

Chances?

hey everyone, any feedback would be appreciated
Planning on applying to Georgetown, UVA, UCLA, and NYU

H.S.: 3.75 gpa, 1250/1860 SAT’s, 3 varsity letters, 150 hours of community service, multiple athletic awards
College: 3.85 gpa in the Honor’s program, Dean’s list, nominated for phi kappa theta, member of habitat for humanity, political science, and model U.N. club

@ smith: Get a 4.0 this fall and your friend is in at all of them. Grade trends are big. Davis and SD are a lock either way.

@ newtransfer: Well, it would depend on your major, but assuming it’s political science, you have a good chance at UCLA. I can’t really gauge your chances for the privates.

@ mytime: If you pull it up to a 3.76 this semester, you’ll get into Cal. However, if it stays at (or very close to) a 3.62, your chances aren’t that great. Maybe 50% - or better if your essays are superb.

@ nero: You’re in. No worries.

@ talebi: Cal doesn’t really care about your course load, as long as you have 60 units done and your prereqs completed with good grades. Otherwise, course load is not a major factor.

Btw I’m noticing a ton of love for Berkeley lol. Nice! I’m a spring admit transfer starting in January, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask! I’ve taken a summer class and am taking Buddhist psych at Cal now on top of some CCC classes. I’m also a psych/phil double major.

hey guys. long time lurker here that finally decided to register to get your opinions

I’m a senator at my college for the math, comp sci, and engineering departments and also looking to join the math and engineering clubs, not to mention star the physics one. I had a job for my first two years of cc (and was planning on a different major) but had a change of heart and decided to stay this year to fulfill requirements for engineering.

I’ve heard of people who have gotten in for less but I don’t wanna get my hopes up. and in terms of major prereqs, I got A’s in the first two calc classes, B’s in the third calc class and linear algebra (currently taking diff eq and it looks easy). I got a C in my first physics sequence class (one of those bs finals, I had an A walking into it :/), and an A in my chem class. I’ll be spending this year to take a comp sci class, two more physics classes and another chem class while also trying to fluff up that gpa. Thanks a lot! :D

Essays: Will start on them soon, will state the above ec’s and how it changed my life, how it relates to the major that I am studying for.

Hardships: Early on in my college life, I used to hang out with friends, did not put studies first, had an active social life and didnt really care about grades until I realized that studies always came first, so I stopped hanging out with friends during the school year and focused on my school work. That was the time my grades clearly went up. Never had a B or lower grade for two years.

Essays: Apparently the essays I wrote for last year’s application were good enough to get me into every school I applied to. Then again I had a 4.0.

@bluesky

your gpa so far, is average for your major, you might wanna try for all A’s this fall. assuming you do well in your major pre reqs, personal statements, and extra curricular activities, you have a moderate to good shot at getting into ucla

@ntp

assuming you make your essays better than “7/10” to at least a 9, you have a good shot at all said schools

@rshie

your major isn’t impacted i believe, and your gpa is higher than avg in general, so i say you have an excellent shot at all said schools

@pinoyako

you have a really good gpa; however, that major is very impacted and the fact that you’re waiting to take even only one major pre req in the spring, may hurt your chances at berkeley, but i’m not saying you’re going to be rejected.

@wing

all most a guaranteed in to ucla & sd, don’t know about michigan though. make sure personal statement is stronger this year though, wouldn’t hurt to work on it even though yours from last year was fine

Hey guys, I’m applying this November and was wondering if anyone could tell me what my chances are.

Current school: CCC
Major: Philosophy, but I have Poli Sci pre-reqs done too. Can you apply to more than one major?
Applying to: UCB,UCLA,UCSD, maybe a couple more
GPA: 4.0
Pre-reqs: Completed, 4.0
IGETC: Completed by spring
EC’s: Finishing honors program this semester, also applying some of my papers I’ve written to the honors conference at UCI, Supplemental Instructor for 1 semester (basically Teacher’s Aide), Writing tutor, Phi Theta Kappa, President’s honor roll 2 semesters, selected for and participated in summer residential program at UCR
Personal Statement/Essays: Already working on them, writing is my strong point

So what do you guys think? Thanks for any advice or tips! :)

@wheemanlol I don’t usually chance people, but in your case I’m going to go out on a limb and guess pretty much in at all the UC’s barring some abnormal circumstance.

@ntpntp:

As long as you maintain or improve your GPA currently, I believe you’ll get in everywhere. UCLA and UCB both emphasize grade trend a lot… As for UCSD and UCD: shoe in.
