My interests might be too broad for my school so I may end up trying to transfer.

@jhaverford- what were your stats as a transfer student. I am sure it will be helpful for others who apply as a transfer. Do you plan on applying every time you are rejected. Would that not seem desperate and maybe hurt your app? Idk i was just thinking about that. Anyway Good luck!

@Blue Ocean Hello there! You seem like a pretty cool person. Yes, I completely agree with you about this thread, the mere fact that we are applying to compete for a very small number of spaces against some of the best tranfer students in the world is awesome.

I hope this thread really builds up and we get to know some great people. And I also understand the feeling of being unprepared while applying in high school, I felt the same way really.

Since you’re in Austria, do you get to have an interview with an alumni? I want an interview, but being in California, I can’t have one. But I’m going to visit and talk to some professors and students! I’m really looking forward to it.

3.8 GPA at a top 10 liberal arts college. 31 ACT score.

hi applicant from northern virginia

Hi there you both. Sorry, been really busy at school and work. Nice to see a lot of people lurking lol ;). So what are you both majoring in?

does anyone know stats for anyone who has transferred into Stanford successfully?

I love you for starting this thread. I am engineering at University of California San Diego. I would not mind being at stanford. It’s the place Id be to transfer. I wouldnt call it a life dream or ideal college because every college has their flaws, but I think that it would be a great place to study and meet great people. I was nervous to apply for freshman admission, but I want to give transfer admission a shot after 1 year at UCSD. So if I got all A’s at UCSD my first year, would that put me in a good position?

My classes don’t seem too hard for my freshman fall quarter
Im taking
Honors general chemistry
Anthropology
CAT(culture, art, and technology)
Math 20A (differential calculus…didn’t want to skip because I want to see how different the math is)

My GPA wasn’t as good it was a 3.53 in high school, but I plan to kick it up a lot in college. I was academically suppressed in high school a bit.

My SAT is 2100 (640 CR, 710 M, 750 Wr), SAT 2 math IIc is 740, and I have a measly 640 in physics. I was thinking whether or not to retake the SAT and possibly taking SAT chemistry because I am better at chem than physics. I would consider retaking the SAT because of my low CR score.

I also am a legacy. My grandfather went to Stanford in the exclusive at the time Sloan Business program for graduate. He is one of the only people in Stanford Business history to not have gone to undergraduate schooling. And he also was a major contributor to the aerospace field.

I speak Japanese, play basketball, planning on playing soccer and basketball at UCSD at the club level. And I was editor in chief for the school newspaper all throughout high school. I will have an open schedule, so I will acquire some more ECs in SD.

That’s me in a nutshell.

Let’s all guide each other through this process. No hard feelings to anyone who ends up getting in, even though it is potentially unlikely, due to the selectivity and in past forums of this type, I haven’t found someone who’s gotten in as a transfer from here.

What do people think about applying twice?

Hey all I’m considering applying for transfer too!

As for applying twice, they supposedly don’t keep records of past contact with students. However, you will have to check the box saying that you have applied before, and they will ask what has changed since you last applied. I see no problem with it as long as you have something you can use to answer that question :)

I’m idly considering transferring to a couple of schools, including Stanford. I’m still weighing whether or not I should stay at my current school. I went to it for its rankings in my major, but I’m sort of not that thrilled about the student body in terms of academic ability/intelligence and ambition.

That’s really the same boat I am in. I’m planning to probably apply to a couple of schools and see where I get in, and then decide whether or not I want to stay where I’m at.

I applied last year and was rejected; i cant tell you the only people who get in as transfers are ones that have extremely unique stories… ex- You were homeless for 4 years, a meth addict, now have 3 children, and have a 4.0 from cc now and have started a non profit… Literally those are the people they are taking. If you look at last years thread, the one person who got waitlisted had an amazing story.

My story is pretty standard. Just want to leave where I am for a more active, diverse, and driven student body/school. I’ve done well academically while also playing a varsity sport, but that’s probably not enough to transfer into stanford. Therefore I am wondering if it is even worth it to apply, but its tough to tell myself to not even try

Hey guys I’m so sorry I haven’t been posting. I’m training for speech team, have my job, and normal school. So yah I’ve been really busy. Anyways, I’m glad you guys like the thread. Hopefully we can all support each other in this stressful and long process lol.

Anyway, so how many of you are about to apply to the UCs, since that’s coming up here pretty soon?

So people who don’t have life stories worthy of a Hollywood script need not bother?

I’m sure everyone in this thread probably has 3.75+ and a decent amount of EC’s so I doubt good grades paired with leadership/involvement/volunteerism will differentiate us from the pack.

I would imagine a few thousand people apply every year and most, if not all of them, are in the top percentiles of their class at their current campus. I apologize if I seem pessimistic, I would like to remain realistic, but hey, doesn’t hurt to dream.

I’m considering applying, and I agree that the threads from past years have been pretty spectacular. I followed the 2011 thread here and there last year and it was pretty interesting to see things unfold.

Hope everyone does well on finals, it’s crunch time for most college students right about now so good luck everyone. :D

I go to COC too and I’m planning on applying to Stanford for Fall 2012. Have you taken the SAT yet, if so what was your score and if you don’t mind me asking what’s your GPA?

I am so glad, that i found this thread, I will be applying to stanford fall 2012 too major in applied math, I came to the states after graduating high school in china, but i didn’t go to college here due to some circumstances and finally was able to go to college at age of 29 (ouch). So I have almost finished 2 years at a community college in Southern California and ready to transfer, My GPA is 4.0. But I have never taken the SAT or the ACT test before, I checked the stanford website, it seems like the SAT or ACT is required for transfer applicants too, but the problem is English isn’t my first language, I don’t know how I will score in English, especially the writing part, since i am a math person, writing is just not my thing.

Does anyone know if a student like me (English as a second language) is required to take SAT as well?

And nice to meet you all, and maybe we can help each other out.

Hi everyone I am considering to apply for Stanford transfer as well!

I’m currently a sophomore, a film and media productions major at Arizona State hoping to go into film and media studies or some other art-related major at Stanford. And like most, I’m pretty standard as well: 4.0 GPA at my university, 4.72 GPA at my high school, 2050 SAT, and 32 ACT. I do have quite a story to talk about myself when it comes to all the filmmaking experience, albeit little, and others that I’ve encountered so far in my life. I am still nervous about the whole application, though, but what the heck, I got nothing to lose and it’s more than worth taking a shot!

What do you guys think? Think we all have a decent chance considering that, first of all, we cared enough to post our thoughts and hopes on this site? Hope we can all help each other out here- thanks everyone! :)

@beyond3000

According to the Stanford website, all undergrads are required to take the ACT or the SAT. If English is your second language, they recommend that you take the TOEFL as well. TOEFL is not required but recommended, which is pretty much saying that you should really take it if you can.
