Hi.
I hope it's not too early for this thread. I was supposed to sit for the ACT on Dec '12 but due to severe health problems I opted for a gap year and am sitting for it in June.
I'm Pakistani btw. If anyone wants to know.
I'm going to prepare like this.
The official red book and tests.
Then the Barron's ACT book and PR tests
Then the Barron's ACT math workbook
Then the Barron's ACT Reading and Writing workbook
Then the Barron's ACT 36

Solve all tests in ACT 36. I'm starting prep on 1st Feb. When I go home from the hospital after such a long time.
I'm also revising my prep for SAT II Bio, Chem and Physics because I'm sitting for those on May 4th as well.

Hoping for the best for everyone sitting for the June ACT.
GOOD LUCK!

Junior here from Europe going to take the April one first, and then maybe the June (depending on how well I do).
I don’t have any books, just a bunch of online resources and practice tests. I prepped a bit over winter break but I’m back to school and not doing much- just reading and hoping that by doing so my reading speed will increase :D

Does anyone else’s practice scores vary by a couple points? I’ve have reading sections where I score 31, but also 35. Science varies a lot too for me. Any advice?

My advice would be to at least buy the Official ACT guide (red book) and if possible, also the Barron’s ACT book for further prep. I’m from Pakistan and because people prefer the SAT over the ACT here, ACT books aren’t available so I had to order my books from Amazon.
I don’t think I can get a 34+ with just online resources but it also greatly depends on you. you might not need the books but in my case, the red book (official guide) is essential.
Good luck!

Yeah I’ll definitely look into it; I just don’t want to wait until I have done all of my other practice tests first so that when I start using the book I will have already improved! Haha hope that makes sense.

Oh and add three more books to the list:
50 ACT math tips
Princeton Review: Cracking the ACT
Barron’s 7 ACT Practice tests.

Hope I’m not overdoing it. But It makes sense to me. You can’t have enough practice with the ACT I suppose… And there’s plenty of time to go through all of these books.

I did the first practice test in the red ACT book the night before I took the Feb ACT. That was the only prep I did. Here are my scores:
E - 34
M - 35
R - 32
S - 35
C - 34

I took the real thing and got:
E - 36
M - 29
R - 36
S - 33
C - 34

So the practice test for me was a pretty good indicator, except for in math. The real math section seemed so much longer and harder than when I practiced. I will go through several workbooks and practice the math section. I feel pretty confident about English and reading (I just hope the readings are interesting again in June) and science is always kind of a hit or miss. Does anyone know of a particularly good math book? One that does a good job of representing the level of the ACT?

After taking the Feb ACT I looked in my PR prep book because there was a question about the equation of an ellipsis (which I didn’t know). It was briefly mentioned in the prep book, but it said it only appears once in a blue moon…just my luck.

So how’s everyone’s prep?
I have AP Biology coming up on the 13th. Then I’m gonna be going through several prep books, especially the workbooks from Barron’s then the last week is devoted to only practice tests…
34+?
fingers crossed

Oh and I have two SATII’s on June1st as well which is a pain in the A$$

ACT is the last thing on my mind. AP tests and a SAT subject test first. Got a 32 on my state ACT. Hoping I can raise it a point–if not, no big deal.

Hi. I am also taking it in June. I have been through Barron’s ACT 36 and it was a good resource. Though it didnt help me much in reading.
I will now finish the red book. Can someone please tell me good reading ACT prep books?

So, just got back from the testing, and was just wondering what everyone thought of this test.

I personally felt everything was pretty standard except for math and science. I thought science was easier than usual, I had plenty of time to finish everything and felt really confident with nearly all the answers. Math on the other hand seemed a bit…not harder necessarily, but just a bit off. The difficulty level seemed about the same as the practice tests if maybe just a bit harder, but some of the questions I honestly didn’t know how to solve (perhaps just weird terminology) despite having taken 17 practice tests. I didn’t remember ever seeing any similar problems during practice for some of them. I felt like I really bombed the math test (maybe a 25-27) which is disappointing as I worked really hard to bring it up to a 30-32 in practice. My practice tests came from the Red book, Blue book, White book, and Princeton 1296 book.

Oh, and the dude next to me burped, loudly, like five times during math. If you’re testing, please don’t burp, it’s really distracting to the girl next to you (and not in an attractive way)

Anyways, those are my thoughts, anyone else?

Math and English were good. Reading on the other hand was not. Idk due to pressure or some nervousness I wasn’t able to absorb passages and ended up totally screwing it. Science was better than reading but ones got to be really fast. I randomly bubbled 4 answers in the end of the science test.
In terms of expecting a score, I am not expecting anything. I will take it again in September and yeah even I practised 8 tests.
