<p>For the midterm one the best strategy was to just “ballpark” it. </p>
<p>Like 3 of the answers were negative which are obviously wrong because it would go up.
The other wrong answer was wayyyy too big.
The correct answer was the only one even remotely close.</p>

You had to construct an additional triangle for that problem. After using the pythagorean theorem to find the base of the the additional triangle, you use your result and the pythagorean theorem again with the given triangle in order to find the diagonal.</p>
<p>Get the square root of 12^2 + 4^2 for the bottom diagonal, then set that to the second power (or just don’t get the square root in the first place like I forgot to do), add 3^2, get the square root of that, and there’s your diagonal.</p>
