Official ACT September 21st Thread

I’m so nervous. I’ve done so many practice tests but I just need to CALM DOWN. My first and only time went awful by CC standards.

Hoping for:
M:33-34
E:32-33
R: 32-34
S: 31-33

Science can really swing though. My best science practice test was a 35.

Im pretty happy with my practice test scores for English, Math, and Science (30-34 throughout) but reading is killing me. I am averaging a 27. The passage I miss the most on is the prose (around 6 wrong). Any tips for the prose passage? Thanks!

Can you guys please post your Real Act scores ?

29E 32M 33R 28S-31 Total
32E 33M 33R 28S-32 Total
Damn science… any last tips for it?

33E, 34M, 29R, 32S - 32 Total. Pretty solid.

But I’ll give you tips for science, sagar96, if you give me some reading tips.

For science, I only look at the questions and speed through and it works most of the time, but if the question doesn’t point me in the direction of a chart or graph, then and only then do I look in the passage for more info. The fighting scientists slows me down due to its reading similarities, but I just do all of scientist one, all of scientist two, and then compare, so I don’t get confused.

Other than that, if it tells you “Figure 2,” make side you read “2” aloud in your head to prevent confusion with a “Figure 3,” for example. It sounds like a silly tip, but I’ve ingrained it in my head to minimize any and all chances of losing easy points. Because, and you probably already know this, the science section’s scaling is so rough, you need all the easy points you can get. (i.e. Even though I got a 32 on this science, my raw score was a 38/40. Two questions dropped me to a 32? Pretty rough.)

@TeachMeHowto34 - Very similar to my scores.

35M, 35E, 33S, 29R - 33 composite is what I got last year when I took it. I’m not taking it again. Your tips are good. The science section is the one that varies so much. I’m just not a fast reader so the reading section got me.

@TeachMeHowTo34
Do you go in order in the science section or do you do the charts/graphs (5 questions) first and then 6 questions and then the conflicting viewpoints last? Or do you just save conflicting viewpoints for last and go in order for the other passages? I get in between a 29-33 on science and i need 33+.

I usually just go straight through in order. Except, if there’s a tough fighting scientists passage, then I quickly flip to see how easy the next passage is. If it looks easier by the glance, then I do the fighting scientists last. I normally don’t have much trouble with the actual content of the scientists, though. I just fear it will throw off my timing. So I either go straight through or make a split second decision to do the scientists passage last if it looks confusing.

I hoped that helped. I’m kind of in the same range as you, though (29-33). Scoring a consistent 33+ is something of a talent, almost.

for reading: think to yourself, is this really what the passage is saying? read the first whole paragraph, then skimp the 1st 2 sentance of everything else, then read the last paragraph, then answer questions and refer back to sections as needed

Any tips on science? Took. Real ACT yesterday and got
E: 32
M: 30
R: 30
S: 26 :(

I’m trying every single last minute thing I can think of, if I can at least just get like a 28. I really want a 31 composite but I have to get science up.

I don’t know why I am worrying so much. YOGA TIME

Oh my god, it is tomorrow! Everyone, good luck!

I have 2 questions. What is the alloted time for the essay section? Is there a national and U.S. only version for the ACT like there is for the SAT?

The amount of time given to us is about 30 min. Essay, if you write a long, decent essay, there is really nothing to worry about.

To everyone: im posting this 1 hour before the exam

GOOD LUCK AND KICK SOME BUTT

Just go in there calm and confident, you all will do great and good luck to us all

I recall in June and earlier tests there was a way to get the scores early. Is that going to be possible for the September test?

The reading was wayyy hard the first passage made no sense ***

I thought the reading was fairly easy and interesting, actually. Then again, I’m big into English and reading so that’s just me.

Agree with16patel. Thought reading was worst section. Plus clock wasn’t working in my room so teacher would announce 5 minutes remaining! I didn’t take watch because I was afraid it would go off and invalidate test! As a result probably had to guess on 2-3 per section. So not sure overall how I did. Felt that math was a little tricky in end. English was like easy, hard, easy, hard. Strange.
