***OFFICIAL AP Art History 2015-2016 Thread***

The thread was made kind of late last time, so I figured I’d do it much earlier this time.

How many of you are taking the class?

What are your opinions on the changes to this course next year?

any good tips on how to study?

@TP2000 I’m not sure, I heard that they cut the required works of art from 500 to 250, so that’s good. I dont know about anyone else, but I’ll be self-studying this exam. I have purchased the Annotated Mona Lisa, and I will be pre-ordering the newest Barron’s for AP Art History (3rd edition). So hopefully those books should help out! Are you taking the class of self-studying?

Wow, finally another person lol. I’m taking this class at my school, and I’m going to purchase the Barron’s book once it is out.

Awesome! seems like not a lot of people take art history haha

Everyone who took this course became much more intelligent even though they already were…hype.

“This class will amuse, amaze, shock, challenge, and astonish you. … We cross into literature, philosophy, science, music, religion, and politics to understanding what art means, how art means, and why art means. To study art is to study the art of being human.”

Quote from the syllabus my friend showed me sophomore year, incoming senior also. Gosh this will be so intriguing.

I’m thinking of self-studying this. I need to ask my councilor though. Any suggestions?

@Taemin I am self studying this! I just waiting for the new Barron’s prepbook to come out! I also got the annotated monalisa to read!

@2016seniorga I was going to get Barron’s also when it came out. Do you think I should also get both books?

I am haha cause I would use a text to get more details

@2016seniorga okay. Thanks! Let’s work hard ^^

@AP_Trevor: 2015 AP Art History scores: 5: 10.1%; 4: 20.5%; 3: 27.1%; 2: 20.4%; 1: 21.9%.

So glad to have found other people taking this class.
I’m self studying art history this year as it isn’t offered at my school. I am also taking AP Calc AB, AP Chem, AP Physics, APUSH, AP English Lang, AP Comparative Gov, AP Psych and AP Bio (my friends have already written my eulogy).
I’m using the Annotated Mona Lisa, Barron’s and Crash Course.

I am also self studying art history. I’m taking AP English Lang, APUSH, and AP Calc AB. I will be using the annotated Mona Lisa, Barron’s and the videos on khan academy.

I’m taking AP World along with this class. I’m going to be using Barron’s and Khan Academy for sure, and I might use the annotated Mona Lisa.

Sadly my school had AP World and AP Art History take place in the same period and since world history is a required sophomore class I’m going to take AP World. I’ll probably try to take this class my senior year.

I took this course last year and got a 5. However, the newer curriculum can seriously suck for those who are amazing at absorbing information. The exam used to be a more fact based, but now the exam focuses on students using the knowledge to compare among different artworks. I was just glancing over the practice questions for new exam and I probably would have gotten a 4.
But besides the exam, the new curriculum is amazing. The required 250 artworks emphasize on studying art history with much more global mindset (prehistoric, asian, african, etc). Also, the exam focuses on appreciating the artworks, instead of memorizing them.
For studying, I would use Khanacademy’s Smarthistory. They included all 250 artworks for students to study.

What is the best practice book for the redesigned test if you believe the teacher will not adequately prepare you for the exam? Also what is the best supplemental book in general for apah? Thanks

I got Barron’s as a review book. The 3rd edition just came out this year so it has the redesigned test.
