I’ll join this convo, as I’m taking AP Bio this year. It’s been two years since I’ve taken honors Bio. Third week of school for me, and we are on chapter 5 of Campbell (reading). However, the teacher lectures over chapter 3. We had a pop quiz today, and I forgot a few things that were in the chapter such as what the dehydration synthesis reaction looked like, which I mistaked for the hydrolysis reaction. Basically, I failed the quiz. Hopefully things will be better in the future. I butchered my 98 in the class, and I probably have a 84 because of the quiz.

@Haphazard What was Chapter 3 about (Might help me when school starts in the next 2 weeks :C who knows my teacher might give me a pop quiz on it = =)

Organic Chemistry/inorganic Chemistry. The building blocks of life.

Well we had our chapter 1 & 2 test today and i got a 96 … but now we start ch 3

Now I hate AP Biology lol. We have a ridiculous hard homework assignment due Friday and I messed up my whole lab. I was excited for this class but now I’m not. On the first day, it seemed so fun, but now x.x I hope it gets better…

@ ^^ Lol its just the beginning … gotta think positive

^ I’ll try :(

What kind of lab o.o

We are covering chapters 2, 3, 4 and 5 for the next two weeks. I understood everything presented to me today which included the actual process of dehydration synthesis, formation of triglycerides and formation of disaccharides from differentt isomers of monosaccharides. I’m pretty sure we are going to have one huge test on all these chapters soon.

@fantasy: We have done two labs so far, both of which sucked.

Hi everyone! I’m a sophomore in the class right now. My class has a reputation of being feared by others due to the toughness of the teacher’s tests, but he clearly is doing something right. Over 90% of students in his class get at least a 3, and about 65% of his students get at least a 4 on the exam. My first test is this Friday on Chapter 3 (water stuff). We had an essay quiz today, and I got 12/12.

I’m not really sure how buffers work though. This is probably basic chem stuff, but I’m taking chem concurrently (meaning I don’t know anything about buffers). Could someone give me a quick rundown of how they work?

Explain the necessity and limitations of using models to understand things.

Kind of sucks that I had honors bio in 10th grade and I now have ap bio as a senior. Most of what I remembered is not advanced enough for AP Bio, as AP Bio requires deeper thought in things. I’m pretty much relearning the material, while taking other challenging courses, doing applications, extracurriculars, and preparing for the SATs. Anyways, we are having a chapter test with FRQ on Friday for chapters 1-5.

Wow, it’s cool to see where everyone is at. At my school we are starting Evolution chapter 22. The lab we’re doing now is the first lab with the plants and the lab takes about 5 weeks.

So we started school yesterday and we were already assigned to read the first 40+ pages. And tonight we gotta read chapter 3 and four. sigh almost everyone in my class want to switch out. I hate this ! I hope it gets better… but idk…

@Haphazard tell me about it! I took high school biology in 8th grade instead of sophomore year because I was on the “advanced track”, but I’m taking AP Bio as a senior, so I have almost no memory of any of this! I didn’t even start yet though, school in Western NY starts on September 4th.

lol my school is on chapter 4 (just started yesterday) and it takes about carbon how its such a great element and bla bla bla … isomers bla bla bla … ect. etc. basically organic chemistry … but we 2 chapters at a time so we will start on chapter 5 tommorw which talks bout the macromolecules … lipids, proteins, carbohydrates, nucleic acids etc.

Doing this sophomore year after honors freshman year. Start school day after labor day. For summer work we had to do reading guides for chap 4-7 in Campbell’s. I’ll be happy if there is greater emphasis on the molecular stuff in the new curriculum, that would be the part I’m interested in the most.

I’m pretty sure that I just failed the crap out of a bio test. 82 questions MC with 6 short answers (not FRQ). The test was mainly over Organic Chemistry. I kind of want to cry haha. The tests count 90% of our grade.

Lol, I got an 88 on my Ch. 1,2,3 test… This sounds really nerdy, but I wish I could have done better… The questions weren’t even that hard! So… for some reason, I’m using the SAT Biology book by Barron’s to help me for the AP Bio book. Because I got the wrong one. Woops…

^“exam”, not book
