Do colleges look mostly at the the composite score, or do they look critically at the individual sections?

Omg science literally killed me…
C:35
E: 35
M:36
R:36
S: 29 :(((((
Dang the math curve was super generous I thought I missed like 3+ … Or maybe I’m just a good guesser lol but I ran out of time on the last section for science…so I already kinda knew it was gonna happen
advice anyone? Should I retake for 35…? Cuz I always get 35s on my practice tests argh

@master1006, nope. Way less than 33, I hate my score. If you bombed it you can join my club.

I think they’ll look more at the composite, but it’s possible they look critically at a particular section if you are applying for a certain school within the college or something. I don’t think it matters that much as long as like one of your scores is not way lower than the rest.

Is anybody still just getting scores

@collegeman5, so if I got below a 30 on my science but above a 33 on the other three sections, should I be concerned? My composite was a 32, and my M, E, and R were all above a 33, but I really screwed up the science. And I want to major in Bio. (I’m a much better science student than the test shows)

Yes!

C: 32 (2 point increase)
E: 34 (1 point decrease)
M: 27 (1 point decrease)
R: 34 (4 point increase)
S: 32 (6 point increase)

Might still have to retake because of my math score, but I’m so happy with the composite!

I’m really happy!

Composite: 33
English: 34
Math: 34
Reading: 33
Science: 29

Ughh, science is ridiculous.

@BenPM35 , God I hate to recommend someone to take this dreaded test again, but I think u should. In fact, I was pretty much in the same position as you. I’m a good science student, but the first time I took it I got a 29 on science. I retook it (this test) and bumped it up to a 35. If I were u I would retake, especially since u want to major in bio.

34!
E: 34
M: 35
R: 33
S: 34
Might retake for 35 though…

@collegeman5 I’m in the same situation…and I want to major in bio. Not declaring before college but declaring once I’m in college. Will they still look at my act science score? Act science is…difficult but I always get good grades in my science classes lol. So u recommend retaking it to increase science?

Got my scores, and I did way worse than I expected.

26 Composite
31 English
21 Math (absolutely terrible)
27 Reading (dropped 2 points)
26 Science

Thanks @collegeman5, I’ll definitely consider taking it again. I’m not applying to extremely top tier schools (The Ivies), and I was super happy with a 32, but I know what you mean. Thanks again for the advice!

@stars5341 , hehe the scores u got this time around are nearly identitical to what I got in December. I think you should retake. I mean, some people will wonder why the **** you are retaking a 34 or even 35, but if one of your sections is super low, then it wouldn’t be too hard to concentrate only on that section for a few months to hopefully see a significant increase. I wouldn’t tell you to retake if you got 34s across the board or if you particularly hated science, but clearly, you do not.

@reedsb, join my club! Same! 26 composite too, I did way above average on English/Reading and okay on math, but science was absolutely terrible. And I love science. Seriously love it, as in I’m devoting the rest of my freaking life to it. ACT science is annoying. Oh well.

@Medgirl314 Whoo! I also did better on English this time. My score raised 4 points. I dropped in reading, but I expected a score somewhere in the 30s. I got a 27… Math is just a subject I struggle with. I raised science 3 points to a 26. I am taking the one in June because I heard it is easier, and I need to raise my score.

@BenPM35 @stars5341 , btw, by no means is a 29 on science a “super low” or “bad” score. I know some people who would kill for that score lol. I’m just giving you advice that seems appropriate considering your situation. Also, I am no expert (only 16), so you should consult with others before you decide to retake or not.

Can somebody help me? I took my test as a standby tester… My status still says “Registered Standby,” and my scores aren’t available still. Does this mean I’m going to get mine later? :((

Anyone still “registered” like me?

@ScholarMilan I am!!
