I had an interview with the West coast rep while she was out here, and then got to meet with her by chance the next day when she came to my school. No one else showed up for the meeting, so I got to tour her around my school and get coffee with her afterwards. I essentially got two interviews, and built a strong relationship with her.

how does Barnard notify American students? Is it by email?

Barnard notifies American students by mail. I’ve heard that the acceptance comes in a priority envelope, while rejections and waitlists come in a normal one.

email for internationals, and letters for US residents!!!

Accepted!!! Really happy!!!

Hello everybody. (: Well, compared to all of you, I have to admit my stats (especially my GPA) are relatively low. It gives me hope, actually, to see that Barnard cares about more than just numbers. I’m thinking there’s a 95% chance that I’ll be attending Barnard next fall (depending on what my reach schools tell me this week), so I feel incredibly excited! I’ve been in constant jig mode for the last couple days. If anyone wants to chat, just shoot me a PM! I hope I’ll get to meet all of you soon.

DECISION: Accepted!

STATS
GPA: 3.62 (unweighted)
Rank: N/A
SAT I: 2290 (Crit Reading: 800, Math: 720, Writing: 770)
SAT II: US History: 680, Lit: 730, Math I: 720
ACT: N/A
Other Stats: APUSH, IB English HL, IB Env. Systems and Society SL, IB Psych HL, IB Anthrol SL

SUBJECTIVE:
Common Application Essays: I wrote something very saccharine about finding pleasure in small mundane things. But I meant every word of it, so I guess that counted for something. If you’d like to read it, I’d be happy to share.

Barnard Essays: As honest as I could make them. I have to say that with the exception of Tufts (and U of Chicago although I didn’t apply there. I just stalked the essay topics), Barnard essays were the most fun to write.

EC’s:
-International Thespian Society officer/House Manager
-Leading/Supporting roles in school musicals/plays
-Directed and produced couple miniplays for our school’s Fringe Festival
-Designed posters for theater publicity
-Writing Center tutor
-School Literary Journal editor
-School Ambassador (new student orientations, school spirit, tour guide for new students and speakers)
-Choir (had a couple solos, sang at the Shanghai Expo)
-Youth Volunteering
-Summer Camp Counselor

Teacher Rec’s: I waived my rights, so N/A. I’d like to think that they were honest at the very least.

Counselor Rec’s: I absolutely adore my counselor and we get along fantastically (he used to be in theater, so we often had long discussions about plays and films). He’s the one who convinced reluctant little me to apply to Barnard, so yeah, I do hope it was a strong, but honest rec.

Major Awards: Principal’s Award, Some sort of SAT award that seems only a title really, Honor awards in Psych and Theater.

Hook (if any): I moved to Beijing, China 4 years ago, then Shanghai 3 years ago, than to another school in Shanghai 3 and a half years ago.

LOCATION
State or Country: China
School Type: Private Co-ed International School
Ethnicity: Asian (Taiwanese)

OTHER FACTORS:
General Comments & reflections: I visited Barnard and, through emailing people who knew people, I had the honor of having a one-on-one discussion with the Senior Associate Director of Admissions. I’d like to think I made a good impression.

I received my acceptance e-mail in the airport while I was flying back from London. I literally danced my way through customs. Immediately when I got home I spent all night flipping through the Barnard black book. I can’t believe how happy I am. It wasn’t until today that the fact that I’m going to college in the fall really hit me. **We’re all going to college! **

Reading through all the other acceptances here, I can’t help my feel that the Barnard Class of 2015 is going to be an amazing group of strong, beautiful women. (: Isn’t it wonderful?

I’m so excited to have more people going to barnard. Getting in ED I’ve been waiting to meet more people :)

Second that, boricua!!! And second that LadyStumble! We all sound so interesting. I can’t help but feel that Barnard is very respecting of the arts. Almost everyone I’ve seen here online has something to do with acting, dancing, writing, drawing, painting, etc. It makes me feel as if I’m not only going to be entering an intellectual bastion next year but a cultured bastion. SO EXCITED FOR ALL OF YOU!!!

oh lord!

how did you guys hear back already?

if i haven’t heard anything from them (no email no mail) does that mean I’m probably not getting in?

I live in MA so it’s not exactly far…

^No the people who have received acceptances are internationals so they received theirs via email. I don’t think anyone has received theres in the mail yet, and that includes those who live in NYC. G

FYI, there’s another, apparently parallel, thread going on with essenetially the same conversation, different speakers. Maybe there is some way to merge the two?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/barnard-college/1027237-girls-applying-barnard-rd-15.html?highlight=barnard</a></p>

hateusernames, I live in China which means that they sent my electronic letter earlier than non-international students (as naomikt pointed out). I haven’t actually received a physical letter yet, and I probably won’t considering how terrible the post is from the US to China.

donnabruke, I believe that that thread only applies to people who applied to Barnard with Rolling Decision. This is just the overall decision thread for those who applied ED, RD, and normal (which I did).

smartundecided, isn’t it great? I also see people who seem heavily involved with community groups such as H4H and GSA. So not only are we intellectually and artistically formidable, but also we’re fiercely socially aware.

LadyStumble, I made the other thread and RD is for Regular Decision, not Rolling (I don’t think Barnard rolling decisions…just RD and ED)

if anyone knows how to merge the 2 threads, lets do it! ahhh I just want the letter to come!

lorrainedelis, aha, that makes loads more sense. Hang in there!

yeah I got my acceptance via email

DECISION: Accepted!

STATS
GPA: 3.84/4.00 Unweighted, 5.38/6 Weighted
Rank: School does not rank; If i had to guess, top 10%
SAT I: 780 CR, 770 Math, 770 Verbal (2320 total)
SAT II: 800 Biology E, 740 US History
ACT: None
Other Stats: 5 on AP US History test (school only offers 2 APs when you’re a junior)

SUBJECTIVE:
Common Application Essays: Wellll, I liked them personally ^^. One of them was about food.
Barnard Essays: They were decent, but I wouldn’t say they were as good as my Common App. essays. I wrote about Virginia Woolf for one.
EC’s: Chairwoman (Captain) of Knowledge Masters (an academic team), STARS (another academic team), Historian/Librarian of String Orchestra, Recording Secretary of Amnesty International (civil rights, liberal activist group), Model United Nations, Artist for the School Newspaper, JV Girls Volleyball for 2 years, Odyssey of the Mind (creativity club); Lots of volunteering - local hospital, Salvation Army, local garden club
Teacher Rec’s: I know one of them was amazing- the teacher really liked me a lot. The other two might’ve been more “honest”, lol.
Counselor Rec’s: My old counselor retired, so this new counselor had to learn a lot about us and might’ve left some stuff out. I think she did a decent job though.
Major Awards: National Merit commended, National Honors Society, National English Honors Society, National Social Studies Honors Society, National Spanish Honors Society
Hook (if any): I would say… having an open mind and trying lots of activities/having diverse interests while maintaining commitments to them. (i.e. School Orchestra for 9 years) ^^

State or Country: NJ
