Official BC is overrated Thread Discussion

Please tell me what this school has to offer besides a decent student body, decent sports, and a decent business program? In no way shape or form should this school be put into the same sentence as Notre Dame or Georgetown. Im sorry but its real competition is Fordham. This school needs to be demoted from its 34th rank! Please list some facts about this school and why its even near NYU in the rankings.

NYU shouldnt be where it is either, only stern and tisch are good. thats an overrated school

BC is pretty overated. Notre Dame is too.

I feel as though some sports programs’ popularity takes heed instead of academics in some instances. Just one man’s subjective opinion. NYU is not overrated. NYU is pretty much given rankings based on academics.

You cannot compare NYU academics to BC. Because NYU is exponentially better faculty and prestige wise. Now back to the OP what does BC offer?

I actually agree. In my field the entire department has one person of that is actively engaged. Also, I can’t say that their Ph.D program produces students that go on to any major institutions.

I think BC is given to much credit when really the academics are somewhat mediocre, but it’s still an okay school.

Why do you care so much so as to make a thread that’s this vitriolic?

you can’t say all these schools are over rated… you just named two schools in the 30s in the rankings. so, which schools would you like to see before them? after 30 there are schools i haven’t even heard of… sooo… i think u should stopp

If we are talking US News rankings. I would rank Wisconsin, Illinois, UC San Diego and possibly Washington ahead of BC

i see someone got rejected from BC?

I honestly think… BC is a great school. Academics do not match up with it’s stature and popularity. Honestly, BC is the NYU of Boston… I think a BC degree is very respectable in the Boston area (where I am from)… I’m not sure how well it does outside the Northeast.

It’s Duke’s little brother in the ACC… A Jesuit Ivy as JFK would call it :D

“BC is the NYU of Boston”

Hmm really haha. I don’t know if NYU’s student population would fit in well at BC haha.

Also, I am not sure if you are doing BC any favors.

I mean… BC is the NYU of Boston in terms of the popularity of the school because of it’s location rather than it’s academics. The number of ppl applying to BC is astronomical. Partially attributed to it’s location - Boston… just like USC with LA etc…

BrownBear, it seems like you have some sort of chip on your shoulder. You have used this forum to trash BC, Harvard, and BU. CC is a great resource for constructive feedback; Perhaps you are unhappy with your own choices. If so, please keep your misery to yourself and try to be more positive with your postings.

agreeeeed ^^

My BU rant started when Daddywarbucks was comparing a BU education to that of Harvard, Princeton, and Yale. I laughed and cursed at him becuase he needed to be put in his place. I have a grudge with BC because it has no business being ranked where it is. NONE OF YOU have offered any sort of reasons or suggestions why it is ranked or has the prestige it does today. BC is overrated! plain and simple. Please do not compare it to NYU because it is on the level of Fordham and to call it the little brother of Duke is an absolute insult to the blue devils.

everyone is complaing BC is overrated blah blah. But nobody seems to understand why. Let me explain.

So, seeing how everyone thinks BC is a good school, we can assume a degree from BC is valuable. Now think, what makes something or someone valuable? Value occurs when that thing/person is UNATTAINABLE. In the case of BC, they have about 1/10th of the student population compared to NYU and BU, YET RECEIVE SIMILAR NUMBERS OF APPLICATIONS. The result? MANY students get rejected. Thus, BC becomes a school that people fight to get into. Making it valuable + overrated.

The same principle goes for relationships. But that’s a discussion for another day.

Valuable + Overrated? oxymoron? BC is overrated and average academics.

bc is amazing <3

amazingly overrated <3
