Decision: Rejected

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 2220 superscore (730 CR, 710 M, 780 W)
[] ACT: N/A
[] SAT II: 770 Literature, 680 U.S. History
[] GPA (out of 4.0): 4.81 W, although I’m pretty sure my school just adds on a point if you’re in the honors curriculum. So let’s just say 3.81 UW.
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Top 10%, not ranked
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): N/A (school is very limited in pre-senior year APs)
[] IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A
[] Senior Year Course Load: AP British Lit, AP Spanish, AP Physics, AP Calc AB, AP U.S. History, Religion.
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Hispanic Scholar, National Merit (Commended) Not major, but won first place at a statewide poetry recital for Latin.
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Not TERRIBLE I guess, but nowhere near up to par. President of Italian Club (2 years), Student mentor (2 years), physics league (1 year), math league (4 years), academic challenge team (1 year)…a few others I can’t think of right now.
[] Job/Work Experience: N/A. Worked as a cashier for four days once. I am lazy beyond belief.
[] Volunteer/Community service: 100+ hours between a local animal shelter and ushering at a theater.
[] Summer Activities: Nothing substantial – took a modern European history course at a local college one summer, came out with an A-.
[] Essays: Writing is definitely my strong suit. My common app essay was solid and pretty unique, I think (no delusions though, it was far from a ~masterpiece~ or even all that great, I just think it was a heavy hitter.) It was about the Iranian revolution of ’09 and what I did to help the protestors. My supplemental essay was very artsy, perhaps dangerously so. To give you an idea, half of it was in poem form. It wasn’t to be intentionally quirky or anything, though; it was an essay about someone who inspired me to write poetry, so it fit.
[] Teacher Recommendation: The first one was all-around nice – we have a sweet little bond. Nothing amazing, but definitely worked to my advantage. Also mentioned the research paper I wrote on jazz in Nazi Germany, so it helped tie into the whole “HISTORY IS MY LIIIIIIFE” thing. Didn’t read the second one.
[] Counselor Rec: Didn’t read, but she really likes me and seems to have a feel for what makes me tick. A very kind woman, too, so I’m assuming it was pretty nice!

[] Additional Rec: N/A
[] Interview: TERRIBLE. Oh my god, I won’t even start.

[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): URM, first generation
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: My writing is very strong, I think.
[] Weaknesses: I guess my SAT scores were “weak”? I thought they were fine, I don’t think you should worry about those too much as long as you clear 2000. What really, really bothered me was my lack of substantial ECs. Take leadership roles, kids.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: No idea. I guess I was sort of expecting at least a waitlist – but that’s life!
[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted: University of Chicago (reach), University of Pennsylvania (reach), Dartmouth (reach), Carleton College (match), Northeastern University (safety), Franklin College Switzerland (safety), The College of New Jersey (safety)[/li][/ul]General Comments:
Hey, it’s cool. I got into some other really awesome places, and I didn’t think I’d be a good fit for Brown anyway. Congrats to everyone who got in!!
