**official cal poly slo 2014-2015 transfer decisions**

@sb1993‌ First off, I am latino. I have every right to say what I want about Latin America. I would never be racist to my own kind, so I don’t know who you think you are talking to. What I commented on was strictly a joke, does not mean I am racist.

Second, I work closely with transfer students applying to SLO and the Admissions office. When I say transfer students, I mean students applying to the School of Business. That is why I can not chance anyone that isn’t a Business major applicant.

Third, EC’s and Extra Currics are the same exact thing. I just abbreviated because I was being lazy.
To answer your question, that whole scenario is misconstrued. You can have a million units and that wouldn’t make you more or less competitive. And don’t get me wrong, it’s not frowned upon to have a ton of units since SLO is just a state school.

There are Four factors in the Algorithm that SLO uses.

MAJOR PREP (depends on what CC you are attending, use Assist.org to configure the classes you are taking)
IGETC (37 units)
GPA (up to 4.0)
EC’s

When you combine 37 units from IGETC and combine the major prep (24 units depending on the CC you attend), that makes up 61 units. Having IGETC done and Major prep courses will maximize your points in these two sections. The program will minus points for the units you haven’t completed in those sections.

For the Major prep section, SLO will factor in the Major prep courses and the Golden Four of IGETC (ONLY).
For the IGETC section, they will factor in just IGETC courses (37 units). If you are complete with everything, you get full points. If you are short a couple classes, you lose points (in this section only of the Algorithm).

It’s all a number game, SLO will rank each student depending on a score. The goal is to complete these 4 sections as much as possible before applying. I really hope this helps, if you need me to go more in depth please do not hesitate to ask. Sorry if I am unclear.

@golfer112‌ yeah by the looks of it, you should be in the clear. It sucks that you can’t go into detail on the application about your EC’s and work experience. Due expect that to change in the near future though.

@joogman23 Ok so just one more question. I finished IGETC and BREADTH and the major requirements/ desired classes (with the exception of a math class that was desired. BUT, one of the major requirements is a stats class, and one of the sections on IGETC is a stats class, I took a stats class at antioch university and my CC (sbcc) said that it would count towards my IGETC for them and that many colleges including UCSB and UCLA accepted my antioch stats class as a CC stats equivalent but they didn’t know about Cal Poly because nobody had applied there with it on their transcript yet. Do you think the computer program will see this, and automatically mark me down a point?

THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP!

@sb1993‌ Like I just stated in my last post, I only specialize in Business transfer applications. The MCA system is fairly simple though in this matter. Look up your major prep on Assist.org and look at IGETC. Run through your school’s IGETC form and check off everything that you’ve done. Does not matter what courses you’ve taken, the matter is to fulfill each requirement for IGETC. The sections in which you have blank, you need to minus points from yourself. For major prep, the most I can tell you is that if you have ALL the major prep done, you’re good to go. I know stats is a prereq but if UCLA will accept it then SLO shouldn’t have a problem either. For the math section of IGETC, if you are using stats as a part of the Golden Four then you might want to minus points or leave it fulfilled depending on whether or not slo accepts that class. If you put on the Supplemental App part of the Application that you completed a stats class then you are for sure good to go. Remember, if you get accepted you will send in your transcripts and then they will verify whether or not they will accept that class. At that point, you are already accepted and they really can’t do much just because YOUR counselor at YOUR school said that the stats class fulfilled IGETC and the major prep course. It will not be your fault if they decide not to accept the class so they will not rescind your app, if you are accepted.

You are only short one class, which equals to two classes because of the algorithm splitting into two sections, unless you put stats is done on the Supplemental app. To me, you will be accepted and will be ranked really high up during the MCA process.

@golfer112‌ I forgot to ask, which desired course was in progress Fall 14?

@joogman23 God you are the MOST helpful thank you!!!

@joogman23‌ Accounting 4B…which I got an A in but thats irrelevant at this point lol.

@sb1993‌ no prob. I will post the whole algorithm PowerPoint once decisions have been posted so that it is available to the public.
Looks like the SLO portal will be back up at 12am just in case anyone didn’t know it was taken down at 8pm

I just logged on and was able to access the student center, no decision has been made yet.

Also, do you @joogman23 know why do they prefer all courses to be completed prior to applying rather than prior to enrollment or Spring of 2015? Wouldn’t most applicants need to have three years of college complete or be non-traditional (ie. taking a gap year after sophomore year) to do so?

Do u guys know what happens if we miss some desired courses because theyre not offered at our cc we go to? I finished everything else available at my school.

@Schoolmaster‌ you just answered your own question. That is why SLO admissions process is so corrupted. They give priority to third year applicants rather than 2nd year applicants. Third year applicants would have way more done than second year. This is the game that they play, the Algorithm (how they set it up), is designed to give applicants an “edge” on other applicants. Since there isn’t a essay part of the application unlike the UC app, they must have an edge or a competitive process to select students. They chose this route because this will make sure that the transfer student coming into SLO will be all set up and ready for Upper Division courses once they arrive at Cal Poly.

@golfer112‌ yeah you should be golden for SLO.

@isaiahahhhchuu‌ it depends on how competitive the major you are applying to is. For a business major you might be screwed. If that was the case, the counselors at your school should have told you to look at other CC’s nearby to fulfill those major prep courses. which courses are you missing and for what major? check assist.org and see what exactly your missing. I can then see exactly where you’re at.

So many long posts to read :-o yeah from what ive read @joogman23‌ has made me realize how slos admission is pretty lame cause ive done all i can 18 units every semester and summer classes to try and do all poly wants in two years… so if they dont accept me then well…i gave it my all haha

@oaklandas9‌ I’m tired

@joogman23‌ you seem to know a lot about the admissions process, thank you for your insight- just a quick question. ive heard a rumor that if you have been previously waitlisted and apply again youre given a little more priority than first time applicants, have you seen this to have any truth?

I would be tired too haha youre the man though @joogman23‌

@221bbb‌ I don’t think it will matter. I say this because applications get ran through a computer, the computer doesn’t have a heart and sympathy. It’s just there to get the job done and it will follow a model in which the admissions staff inputs for the computer to select the applicants. If you are reapplying, that means you should have everything done, or at least almost everything before applying to SLO again. This will make you competitive and be ahead of most applicants.

Whats your major? What did you have in progress Fall 14 and Spring 15? When did you complete IGETC?

It seems that there are a lot of applicants reapplying to SLO this year.

@oaklandas9‌ have faith partner, i believe in you.

@joogman23‌ imma nutrition major. This is my second year in cc. Completed all required courses and igetc this semster. I had a 3.55 gpa at time of application. Didnt take survey of econ, micro, and this other desired bio class.

@joogman23‌ thanks for the swift answer. im an animal science major and the only important class i had running was in fall 2014 and it was one of my major preps- otherwise i completed my other major preps, IGETC and any other requirements all last school year. just kind of taking fun classes this semester because i have no more classes to take so its chill.
