@sb1993 First off, I am latino. I have every right to say what I want about Latin America. I would never be racist to my own kind, so I don’t know who you think you are talking to. What I commented on was strictly a joke, does not mean I am racist.
Second, I work closely with transfer students applying to SLO and the Admissions office. When I say transfer students, I mean students applying to the School of Business. That is why I can not chance anyone that isn’t a Business major applicant.
Third, EC’s and Extra Currics are the same exact thing. I just abbreviated because I was being lazy.
To answer your question, that whole scenario is misconstrued. You can have a million units and that wouldn’t make you more or less competitive. And don’t get me wrong, it’s not frowned upon to have a ton of units since SLO is just a state school.
There are Four factors in the Algorithm that SLO uses.
MAJOR PREP (depends on what CC you are attending, use Assist.org to configure the classes you are taking)
IGETC (37 units)
GPA (up to 4.0)
EC’s
When you combine 37 units from IGETC and combine the major prep (24 units depending on the CC you attend), that makes up 61 units. Having IGETC done and Major prep courses will maximize your points in these two sections. The program will minus points for the units you haven’t completed in those sections.
For the Major prep section, SLO will factor in the Major prep courses and the Golden Four of IGETC (ONLY).
For the IGETC section, they will factor in just IGETC courses (37 units). If you are complete with everything, you get full points. If you are short a couple classes, you lose points (in this section only of the Algorithm).
It’s all a number game, SLO will rank each student depending on a score. The goal is to complete these 4 sections as much as possible before applying. I really hope this helps, if you need me to go more in depth please do not hesitate to ask. Sorry if I am unclear.
