@amyshengting Unlike the UC system, SLO doesn’t give preference to OOS applicants. They actually give an advantage to in-state students. They also are not very concerned with EC’s. With that being said, the fact that you are a female applying to engineering may help you out. I would say 30% chance.
Below 50/50 for most majors. NOT A CHANCE for engineering
You have a good chance. 63% I’d say
@CalPolyCS you have no chance
@nick97furbish why do you say SLO gives preference to in state? I heard just the opposite, that they look for OOS engineers and thats how they fund the department.
I talked to the admissions personnel wen I toured the school and they said that they keep a limited number of spots for OOS students and give preference to in-state students. This is similar to how it is in many other states for public universities. @Luckymomof3
@Luckymomof3 I meant “when” not “wen”.
My point is still valid tho
@Nick97Furbish what are you studying at Cal Poly?
Mech E @willtram23

@lagunitakid what is your major?
When my sons school counselor was getting information for his chance (applied 2013) he was told by CP that only 10% of acceptances sent out were for OOS student applicants. His GPA was below the average CP admit, his test score were average for CP, so he really didn’t think he had much chance. He was happily surprised

Anybody with previous experience with this happen to know if there is any truth to this assertion? If you do not apply ED, and you really had the grades and test scores to be admitted ED, you will be rejected in RD. The thought is that if SLO is not your first choice, and you apply RD, you are probably not going to attend, so they don’t accept you. It seems a little far fetched, but I heard it from someone who had child accepted at UC Berkeley, and rejected at SLO because they applied RD.
@ucladeb I hope that is not correct
Older son applied RD 2 years ago with good stats and was accepted the first day when adnission results were posted. I think alot of high stat applicants use SLO as a backup and with an acceptance rate of 11% for many of the majors (CS/ME), yes many will not be accepted in the RD round. I really do not think this has anything to do with not applying ED.
I think that’s just salty people who say that @ucladeb
