To all of the kids (& parents) stressing out right now, I always tell my kids, that no matter how many schools you apply to, get in, and get rejected from, ultimately all but one will eventually receive a NO–either from the school to you or from you to the school. This is a crazy journey you all are on right now, but you will figure it out and will thrive wherever YOU decide to attend. Cal Poly is an amazing school (LS '93 married to a CE '94), but there are LOTS of other great schools.
Anyone accepted for rec park and tourism? I’m on the boarder 3.8 GPA, 27 ACT
@4chicksmom and anyone else that knows - my D applied BME, but then Economics as her second choice. If there are tons of people applying BME, and if she still has great stats, why wouldn’t they accept her as Econ major??
Just curious, when or how would we know if we got into our second choice major?
Business Admin Major, still haven’t been accepted or rejected. Portal says “thank you for applying to cal poly. We have received your application. No determination has been made at this time.” I’m in state, CSU GPA is a 3.3, which I know is low but ACT COMPOSITE is a 32, ethnicity: Asian Indian, lots of EC’s and Cal Poly is my top option and I’m really hoping to get in. I applied regular decision and I wish I would’ve done ED. Anyone else on the same boat? I’ve seen quite a few business acceptances on the forum.
@ucladeb I have no clue what they are doing. There are a lot of folks here still waiting whose stats are above the norm accepted. My S still has not heard for ME, with CP max gpa, 34 ACT, max rigor and EC points, and a couple of extras. If it is a mathematical algorithm, it makes no sense, but then neither does notifying kids one by one. Odd.
It is so confusing, we are waiting for ME as well. And half the posts from those accepted are WELL below ours. I wish they would just be transparent. It would probably stop alot of phone calls and unnecessary stress for students.
my understanding from the tour we took at SLO is that for the Engineering school, if you choose that as your 1st choice and don’t get in, you will not get accepted into a 2nd choice major.
Congrats - curious what does your last name start with and are you in state or out of state?
@Hopeful5555 who are you asking?
Does anyone know if it’s easier to get into business rather than Biology?
You reminded me- I applied for Civil Engineering but Im pretty sure I put Business for my 2nd choice major. Does Cal Poly even look at those majors?
@stephrass - what??? really? Why would they do that? They figure if engineering is first, you won’t really want to go if you get your second? Or, they, the school of engineering, don’t want to deal with passing on your application to another department? Did they give you any reasoning for this?
@ucladeb Here’s what it says on the Calpoly site: “Cal Poly applicants must declare a major upon application and ‘undeclared’ is not an option. Once selections are made, major changes are not allowed until the first quarter of attendance. Selection to all Cal Poly majors is competitive and we have more qualified applicants than available new student spaces. Therefore, Cal Poly rarely considers alternate or ‘second choice’ majors.”
Pfft…why bother with a second choice then. Sheesh! Thanks @stephrass…
Well…March 15 cannot come soon enough - that is when two of the UCs that D applied to notify - and I believe they notify all candidates at once and not one at a time like SLO. Hopefully we will have some good news. She has an acceptance at CPP, but not one of her top choices.
@ucladeb I think it might be a CSU app thing…but since SLO is so much more competitive than the other CSUs they don’t feel the need to consider 2nd choices. Actually, USC said the same thing to me. Since all majors are competitive, if your first choice rejects you, the likelihood of getting into your 2nd is slim.
I think just because they’re in SLO, they’ve probably decided that their decisions have to be released SLOwly
@ucladeb If your D got any Chancelors invites from UCs then she can consider herself accepted. My D got the Chancelors to UCSB which means that he will personally tell those kids at the reception that they have been admitted. Also, if she was invited to apply to UCLA Alumni Scholarship then that is a pretty good indication of acceptance as well as Regents.
