In state female still waiting for CS (btw first letter of last name is V)

so what say? accept/reject/waitist?
Game over. Guess have to go some other school.
Congratulation to all accepted.
Does anyone know when Physics comes out?
Why do you say that? @recursivestring
@recursivestring did your portal say rejected?
@recursivestring I wouldn’t give up hope yet- acceptances last year came out over a period of 2 weeks. Acceptances only started last Thursday, it hasn’t even been a week yet.
Not being rejected yet. But stats are much lower 3.44 UW for CS. Read last year’s thread, after this, not many acceptances.
Recursive what do you mean “after this”? Like after the first few days? Do they save rejections for last?
Last year acceptances came out on Valentine’s day and stopped around March 7. Yes, much less people were posting acceptances by that time and waitlists were sent out on 2/28, but it’s far too early to give up. Especially since acceptances started posting on the 19th this year.
This is my 3rd child through this. To reiterate what other people have told you - sorry, but if you have seen acceptances already from your major on previous days, then start looking at your other college options. They do seem to release a major ‘throughout’ the day, so if you see a new one in the morning, you can hold out hope until the next day and out of state people are done earlier I believe, but the rest has held true for the last 5 years at least. The people who ‘trickle’ in over the next few weeks announcing they ‘just got accepted’ are ones who hadn’t been checking their portal. So, for example, it seems like Mech Engineering already released a few days ago. I don’t have any experience with the waitlists, so maybe someone else can chime in on that. But basically if your major has released already and your status says ‘no determination has been made’, it will stay that way until late March when they mass change them all to ‘no offer of admission’.
Has anyone heard with a communication studies major?
Just got my acceptance this morning, majoring in Business Administration with an Accounting concentration (if I remember clearly). Probably was a tad bit easier for me to get in since I wasn’t majoring in computer science or engineering, but I’m relieved.
-CA resident
-competitive high school
(senior classes, APs, etc are not stated below)
-3.45 unweighted GPA
-3.5 weighted
-1 AP class (Language & Composition), 5 on the exam
-2120 SAT I (690 R + 700 W + 720 M)
-690 SAT II (Literature)
-Had an internship this past summer in Marketing at a software company
Extracurriculars aren’t important, as they don’t look at those if I remember clearly, so I won’t list them. (My memory’s not too hot, ha…)
There’s still quite a bit of time left. It seems like the kids at my school who have gotten acceptances so far mostly applied in science (i.e Biology) or Business.
I’ve had 4 kids go through this at CP, and by my experience, jbourne is correct. ^^^ Waitlists are usually notified (on the portal) a few days before rejections are posted. In the past few years, very few seem to get in from the waitlists.
@ucladeb – Last year 1,924 freshman applicants applied for 75 BME slots, and MANY high stats kids were rejected. BME attracts many very highly qualified applicants and more female engineers than any other major in the College of Engineering. I believe it is the most competitive major at Cal Poly. Good luck, I hope your daughter still makes it in! But if not, I’m sure she will have other wonderful options!
I got into philosophy yesterday afternoon!
My stats are 32 ACT, 4.4 weighted gpa (I dont know my CSU one) and 3.93 unweighted, lots of ECs
Hopeful5555 Not a lot of Rec Admin apps on this board. We are a Poly family (parents both alumni and her uncle) for sure and it would be great for my D to get in, but doesn’t look like it is meant to be. (Saw some English majors with lower stats, maybe she should have chosen that! LOL) She’s heard from several college counselors and department chairs that if you’re getting a Masters in OT afterward, the undergrad major doesn’t matter that much.
Her stats:
CSU GPA: 3.65
SAT: 1780
ACT: None
Full college prep program
10 courses in 4 years in either Honors, AP or IB
IB certificate candidate for English and French
Lots of extra curriculars: sports, theatre, service, leadership, club presidents
community service hours with leadership responsibilities, youth sports coach and official
works part time
in-state (so cal)
She’s accepted at CSUF (our area school) but too close to home for her. All other apps are with small private colleges hoping that with her stats and community service and leadership roles, she would get scholarship money to make up the difference between state tuition and private. So far that gap is closing up on a few schools now as the offers are rolling in.
One thing I learned with my older one, is they will end up where they were meant to be. And any college experience will be a good one once they get there.
Hoping you hear soon though too.
@ucladeb How many alumni scholarships are granted at Ucla i.e., what are the chances? My son sent in his app a few days ago.
Do you know how many applicants applied to Mechanical Engineering for how many spots last year?
Do you also have breakdown of other engineering majors as well?
@jbourne
Can we get confirmation on this, because other sources say acceptances trickle in until April 1st. Has anyone actually contacted Cal poly to see if this is true?
Hello all. Since some people have been saying that CPSLO sends out admissions decisions grouped by major, I hope this might give some insight to some of you.
I checked my portal Monday and saw that I was accepted.
College of Math and Sciences, Chemistry major.
Received an email about the decision a day later.
Cal Poly is not my first choice, so I don’t know if I will be attending next year. But congratulations to everyone else who has been accepted, and best wishes to those of you still waiting to hear.
I’ll post general stats if asked.
