Reflections: My test scores are more impressive than my GPA, so I was unsure how it would play out. I love the school, and think it’d be a good fit for me. But it’s hellishly expensive, and I don’t want my folks to have to shell out more than they can afford, or to go into huge debt for undergrad. Accepted to Brandeis, U Wisconsin, UPitt (Honors), UVermont (Honors), UMass (Honors), waiting on Michigan

If you are on the waitlist like I am, you should pretty much give up. Last year they put 5,000 students on the waitlist and 70 eventually were admitted.

Freshman wait-listed students (students who met admission requirements but whose final admission was contingent on space availability)
Do you have a policy of placing students on a waiting list? Yes No
If yes, please answer the questions below for Fall 2011 admissions:
Number of qualified applicants offered a place on waiting list 5,003
Number accepting a place on the waiting list 642___
Number of wait-listed students admitted 6_

Just wanted to know if others were also invited to participate in either the Quantitative Social Science Scholars Program or the Science & Humanities Scholars Program? And are these invite-only or open to everyone - if anyone knows? Thanks :)

Also, has everyone received their admissions packets in the mail already? Congratulations to all those accepted!

According to the Common Data Set posted on the CMU site, they took 6 students off the waitlist last year from 642 that placed themselves on the wait list.

Number accepting a place on the waiting list: 642

Number of wait-listed students admitted: 6

I totally agree, placing 5000 on a waitlist is utterly ridiclous.

I’d suspect that most people who got rejected from a school are not invested in the thread any more and don’t necessarily want to share the news. I’m sure there are plenty of people who were rejected, especially those who applied only to SCS or CIT.

For those of you who got accepted, did they post your financial aid letter online yet? They haven’t posted mine, but I have an unfulfilled financial aid requirement that I emailed them about some time ago and never heard back about: waiving my CSS noncustodial parent profile.
