@DRose, when you say CMU places 5000 on waitlist. Does it include students who are accepted into one or more schools but waitlisted on other schools?

If that’s the case, the waitlist may not be as long as it seems.

@DRose, when you say CMU places 5000 on waitlist. Does it include students who are accepted into one or more schools but waitlisted on other schools?

If that’s the case, the waitlist may not be as long as it seems.

I talked with FA today - FA packages being mailed today - will be online Monday.

How do we check decisions?? I haven’t gotten ANY emails from CMU…

your Decision letter point them out that which college you have been accepted, another - waitlist?

Financial aid packages will be sent out beginning of next week, possibly the end of this week (I called the office).

Cortana - crazy how we get different info:

This is the email I rec’d from CMU:

Thanks for your email to the Carnegie Mellon University Office of Admission.

Financial aid decision letters will begin going out tomorrow, so most likely, you should receive some sort of notification by the end of the week. By next week, your letter should be uploaded to our “Where Am I in the Process?” page.

Best regards from Carnegie Mellon’s Office of Admission.

wait where are you guys seeing your decisions?

go through the portal you use to check your application.

ACCEPTED TO CIT & MCS!!! I wrote out all the stats & then somehow it wouldn’t let me post, so I probably won’t do it again haha. But I’m so excited, this was my dream school & I really feel like I belong here. Does anyone know if CMU allows roommate preference? I went to the SAMS program this summer and my roommate from that is also attending CMU next year.

Congrats to everyone else who was accepted, and to those who were not, keep your heads up! I was rejected from Rice but that’s just alright because CMU is the school for me, always has been. :)

Anyone else here potentially doing the BXA Program?

And does anyone know how much CMU might give to a student whose family income>100k, with one sibling already in college? As of right now, it looks like I’ll either be attending RISD or Rice University for architecture

So I was waitlisted for CIT - ECE (which was the only thing I applied for), but I got my letter today saying that I was accepted to all the other departments at CIT, even though I only picked CIT - ECE when I applied. Did this happen to anyone else?

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 2390 (790 W, 800 M, 800 CR)
[] ACT: 35 composite w/writing, but didn’t submit
[] SAT II: 780 M2, 780 Lit, 720 Physics, 630 Spanish

[] AP (place score in parenthesis): World History (5), European History (5), Statistics (5)
[] IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A
[] Senior Year Course Load: All my classes are APs
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): the usual. nothing huge.
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): One major activity with leadership over 4 years. A couple years of debate and NHS. Some other “for fun” clubs.
[] Job/Work Experience: none
[] Volunteer/Community service: none (except through school)
[] Summer Activities: some less prestigious pre-college programs that I took as much for fun as for credit
[] Essays: I really loved my common app essay. It didn’t have anything to do with school, just personal stuff that was more important to me. As for the supplement, I didn’t spend much time on it at all - I wrote a long paragraph about CS and shorter ones about IS and ECE, relating each program to my HS activities and plans for the future.
[] Teacher Recommendation: didn’t read them. presumably good.
[] Counselor Rec: ditto
[] Additional Rec: none
[] Interview: just a quick chat with an admissions counselor during my visit. She went over testing requirements, then asked what I was looking for in a college and if I had questions. Not great, not terrible.

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): in the Midwest
[] Country (if international applicant): N/A
[] School Type: public
[] Ethnicity: white
[] Gender: female
[] Income Bracket: probably too high for financial aid
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): female in CS/Engineering?
[/li]

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: I have a strong math & science background (advanced classes & lots of math contests) but I also excel in English. I read all the time and I love creative writing, which helped my essays and my scores on SAT CR & SAT II Lit.
[] Weaknesses: I don’t have many leadership roles, and no self-initiated stuff like starting a small business or inventing something. I only did science fair when it was required for a class, and I’ve never done actual research at all.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: My scores and grades proved I was qualified, and I’d guess my interest in writing set me apart.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Rejected from MIT, so I didn’t have high hopes for this one–it was a great relief to get such a positive response! Accepted to UW and UT Austin; still waiting on Brown.

[/ul]General Comments: For future applicants, make sure your application reflects all the different parts of your personality. The people in Admissions want to get a sense of who you are, and they can’t do that just by looking at grades, scores, and even ECs. Don’t make their job harder than it has to be! If your essays are original and honest you’ll be more likely to stand out.

Accepted to Tepper!!! Will post stats later :)

[] State (if domestic applicant): OH
[] Country (if international applicant):

[] Weaknesses: lack of real accomplishments
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I have a reasonable amount of CS experience and am fairly decent overall for a CMU applicant
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
Accepted: Ohio State Honors, Pitt full-ride, University of Cincinnati, Case Western, Wash U
Deferred at Yale, Waitlisted at UChicago

[/ul]General Comments:
Congrats to everyone accepted. There is a fair chance that I am attending, since CMU’s SCS is pretty amazing, but the lack of financial aid is a turn-off. Good luck for anyone who is applying!
