Can anyone who has visited describe to campus energy? I’m from NY and never got around to seeing the campus in person. Is it overwhelming considering how large it is? My dad was in the area a few years back and said the campus felt industrial and cold, is that true?

tennis625, your dad is totally wrong! maybe he visited during the winter or when students have finals, so they’re indoors studying. But trust me, there is ALWAYS something to do! The only problem you’ll have is choosing where to go on any night. My sister is a current freshman at Michigan and she’s always getting e-mails on what’s going on (e.g. parties, movies nights, comedy shows, etc.). As for it being too big, they hold this “Festifall” at the beginning of each year where they have all clubs (1200+) congregate at the diag and you pick and choose which you want to join–this goes a long way in making the campuc feel smaller and more intimate. :)

@collegeparanoia What an amazing way ti describe campus!!! Haven’t visited yet but by the way you make it sound it looks like its gonna be one hell of an experience at UMich =D

@weshahy95, it IS one hell of an experience! Which is why I’m completely paranoid about my decision! I honestly don’t know what back up school to go to–I’ve applied to about 10 safeties but they’re not exactly at the same level (academically speaking) as Michigan is, so yea…
What about you (and everyone else), what’s your second choice?

I applied to UMich and Georgia Tech as earlies, and have alot of regulars ifi get rejected to both, but I want UMich SO BAD!!!

I still can’t believe I got so hooked up with this School. Really can’t wait for decisions =D

Collegeparanoia what were your safeties??

I know!!
My safeties are:

Michigan state university

University of michigan-Dearborn

University of Detroit Mercy

Eastern Michigan University

Oakland University

Ferris State

Lawrence Technological University

Michigan Technologocial University

Wayne State University

UM-Flint

But honestly, I don’t even know why I applied to the majority of these schools–especially the ‘tech’ ones–I’m not even interested in math! I just applied to everything instate…GAHH…I still need to apply to out-of-state universities but honestly, if I don’t get into UMich, I’m screwed.

Does anyone know which dorm will be the honors dorm? I heard South Quad is under reconstruction.

@PennyB An admissions counselor told me it will move to West quad.

Do we find out about being in the honors program/scholarship $ when we are accepted or later on?

@CollegeParanoia

10 safeties? Jeez… Why?

Will only EA be told on the 24th, what about ED?

If I don’t make it into UMich, I’ll probably wind up going to EMU strictly because I know that it’d be financially viable… that having been said, I’ve never wanted to attend any school other than UMich this much, it’d be an incredible heartbreaker to be rejected. :(

I’m sure you guys are all fine!! :)

Potentially 3 weeks left! Wouldn’t mind an acceptance letter under the tree myself…

@palves there isn’t an ED option for UMich, I wish there was though! …if you mean RD then no. RD doesn’t find out before dec. 24. They start processing RD applicants in Jan/Feb.

lol @esimpnoxin, I know…it’s a bit much…but hey, it’s in the name, I’m paranoid!

So I get my First Trimester grade report back, and I barely managed to miss an A- in Chemistry A by half a point. ;~;

Ah well. Could be worse, could be faaaaar worse. Still, this sort of thing really puts me on edge about admissions… :(

^^My son would feel your pain, he did the same thing by .06…and at his school they take the number out two places and simply turn it into a letter…no one ever sees the number, so B+ instead of A- in first tri of an AP class. I heard about it and usually he doesn’t say a word about grades. Transcript GPA gets calculated by the letter on a straight 4.0 scale no weighting. Not helping his application.

I want an acceptance letter so bad! People tell me that I will get in because I have national level awards and do a lot of extracurricular and still have high grades ._. But I think my ACT score will hold me back >.>

@momofthreeboys, Yeah, it just feels awful when certain grades are/aren’t reported or are reported in a skewed manner. I took English 101/102 outside of the school when I was a Sophomore, but missing all that Pre-Calculus (nearly half the class!) to do it caused me to get a C+ in my first trimester. After a ton of rescheduling, I managed to get that issue rectified, but still, since the grades I got in 101/102 never were applied to my High School GPA due to it being dual-enrollment, I never got any weight added on my how well I did in those classes, just leaving me with a dent in my GPA from math. :(
