** Official Class of 2017 University of Michigan EA Decisions Thread **

Yeah i was just trying to be encouraging. No doubt those who were overqualified yet rejected forgot to remove “Stanford” from the copy/pasted essay.

At least you’re at an advantage by being in-state; I’m out-of-state, unfortunately, and seeing the number of applicants is definitely intimidating

Ann Arbor is the ONLY place I can see myself next fall. I’m in-state, which helps, and my brother currently goes there which helps too I hear. My ACT is a 28, and I have a 3.85 GPA. I know I’m a little low… but I’m still hopeful! In a school with like 184 students, I think about 4 or 5 applied and I’m definitely the top or at least the second best candidate. Michigan State is my safety and I’ve already been accepted… I wasn’t really even happy when I got that letter. I just love Ann Arbor so much! For those who haven’t been there… don’t doubt it til you’ve been there! There is nothing in the world that compares to a football game in the Big House, or even just the whole city’s atmosphere on game day! Even if you don’t really like sports, the experience is like nothing else in the world. I hope I have the pleasure of meeting all of you next year! Can’t wait to hear if I got in or not. Go Blue for life!

hergie, that’s one of the things that really drew me to Michigan: sports. My school has almost 2000 students but no school spirit whatsoever. I love the UM atmosphere.

3.4/35  got kickass ECs and essays though…hopefully, I pull through!

@shabang, I agree. Michigan is a complete college atmosphere: Great academics, great athletics, good location and a big ten student life…problem now is just getting accepted -__-

Anybody know how much easier it is to get in if you are in-state compared to out-of-state? How about having a sibling already enrolled? Everyone says it helps but nobody says how much!

to people stressed about low sat scores, fear not my cousin got in last year with a 1700 and a 3.8, she just showed passion and explained her goals well in her essays!

I wish everyone here the best of luck during these stressful moments! I wonder when decisions will be released because the seniors at my school (Ann Arbor Skyline High) got their decisions by December 13th last year! However, I do think that they will organize it better this year. Just so if people didn’t know, Michigan compares you to the rest of your high school’s applicants when considering you. You aren’t being compared with everyone else in the country. Being in Ann Arbor, I’ve had the privilege of talking to Admissions Chair Ms. Sanders numerous times and that’s the one thing she told me that even caught me by surprise. Just keep that in mind. At least your school doesn’t have 170+ applicants (which is why I’m just as stressed as you guys). My school is insane! Hope everyone gets in but don’t stress, you’ve done all that you can and hard work will pay off if you put in the effort over these past 4 years.

@MichiganSports wait so does Michigan compare you to the other kids applying to Michigan? Or do they use the school profile that the counselor sends in to compare you to the rest of your schools student body?

@goblue13 The University of Michigan compares you to other applicants from your high school. Obviously, Michigan still has their “standards” but even if you meet those standards, you may not get accepted because almost everyone else in your high school meets the “average standards.” This is why you see some people with great statistics get deferred or rejected; it’s because their graduating class is ridiculously smart and had better essays. That is why I laugh when I read people saying that they’re content with average essays. Everything matters because you want to stand out from the rest of your graduating class! That’s why it is much harder to get in when your high school has a lot of competitive applicants. I guess it all balances out but I just wanted to clarify that you aren’t being compared with everyone else in the country, only your high school.

Well, I guess I can breathe a bit. I verified it today, only 5 people in my graduating class (including myself) applied for UMich, from which I’m easily the first or second most qualified applicant. I think our final applicant had a 2.8 GPA, 18 on her ACT and is only applying because she likes college football… yeah. I think I can relax a tiny bit. Our school historically has an incredibly low amount of students applying to UMich (especially compared to MSU, given that we live in a farming community) and, generally, all or most of the applicants get in. I guess I can just sit and hope though. ;~;

Thats only one aspect of the decision process. They also look at other factors.
Such as: Hooks are the deciding factors (i.e. Legacy, hardship, minority status, IS vs. OS).

Story telling essays, non-generic types.

It’s driving me crazy. I have been accepted to Ohio State as a safety.

TRUE BLUE!!!

Wait wait, applying to Ohio while calling yourself a Michigan fan? D:
(I’m just kidding :P)

I guess we ALL have a few “hooks” here and there. On the one hand, I’m an instate, poor minority. On the other hand, no legacy whatsoever - heck, I’m to be a first generation college student, this entire process is new for the whole family. :C

It makes sense that The University of Michigan compares applicants that go to the same high school rather than the nation as a whole. Unfortunately that makes me very nervous. My high school in its entirety isn’t very competitive but the 50-55 applicants applying to UofM are all very competitive. Can’t wait to see how this turns out…less than 3 weeks to go…good luck everyone! :)

Sounds GREAT!!! Hahahah I’m the only student applying to UMich from my school and most likely the entire city =P. Hope it works out for all of us!! =D

@weshahy95, where are you from, if you don’t mind? I just can’t believe that you could be the only one applying from an entire city!

@Collegeparanoia im an American citizen and I have been living in Alexandria, Egypt for the last couple of years, and trust me, only about 100 students apply to US universities and i’m sure i’m the only one who applied to UMich EA =D

Cool! Ya3ni inta 3arabi??

Ah ya gada3 ana masri!!!
Inta mineen???
