** Official Class of 2017 University of Michigan EA Decisions Thread **

Don’t worry, your classmates will be rejected. UMich is notorious for turning down “safety” apps.

“UMich is notorious for turning down “safety” apps”

Is it? People from my school who apply to Mich as a safety tend to get in just fine.

Obviously, I am much more likely to attend than those students, so I would hope that they send an acceptance letter my way ;)

About 21 days left!!! In-state student hoping to get in! :)

It’s so nerve wracking. I can’t really imagine myself going to school anywhere else. For me, UM is exactly what I’ve been looking for.

OMGG same here!! Like I can’t see myself elsewhere. ::

herp rly hope i get in

Any guesses on this years notification date? I’m guessing the 14th. I really hope they don’t do what they did last year. (Acceptances on 12/16/11, deferrals on 12/17/11.)

I feel like so many schools are emailing or mailing out decisions on the 14th this yr which is weird…but the earlier the better I guess

As the wait comes to an end, are you guys feeling more confident or less?

@CollegeParanoia less and less…especially after seeing stats on CC…then again, like you, I am paranoid. :-)

I’m also feeling less confident, haha. I’m running around and scrambling to find other schools to apply to, even though I thought I had enough but I guess not. It’s a stressful process.

Less confident for some more confident for others, the problem is that it’s such a crapshot so it’s impossible to know for sure

I’m feeling less and less confident, but that’s mostly because of the atmosphere of the internet and “rate me” threads, where people can look at some kid with a 36/2400, 4.0 GPA, Valedictorian, King of the known Universe and perfect in every way and then tell them they can’t get into a university because they haven’t cured AIDS. Still, if they see that I’ve only applied to 3 schools, and very obviously took UMich the most seriously, then they MIGHT take that into account… eh.

And according to my friend who attends at LS&A right now, she says that sometime within the 14th-16th would be a reasonable guess for when emails start to get sent. I’d take that with a grain of salt considering she’s just speculating herself, but still, at least she’s been through this before. >:

Same here :frowning: You guys, I feel like this isn’t even reality anymore, lol. It doesn’t even matter what my decision is, I’m already depressed.

Hey now, I’d make sure to relax a bit. It’s all our Senior years, no? I mean yeah, don’t fluff off or get Senioritus, but what’s done is done. You’ve sent in your application, wrote a kick-butt essay, you did the best you possibly could. Worrying now won’t change the result of our decision, so let’s take it easy and hope for the best. Better than worrying ourselves sick through the whole wait. :)

Right, before I manage to accidently break some forum rule - are we allowed to post YouTube links? I wanted to post a chill song… >:

LOL @sapharodon, thank you. That actually did help me  Hopefully we both get in!

Indeed :D

Now to just relax.

Oh gosh! All of you guys with the 30+ act scores are completely fine. I’ve heard of people getting into UM with 24’s! I guess they really do look at the entire picture. I would completely surprised if ANY of you don’t get in, considering the acceptance rate is 41%. :)

I’ve been hearing that the acceptance rate is going to be between 32%-35% this year…hopefully it stays at 41%!

Just to clarify, the acceptance rate for last year was 35% with an average ACT of 31 and average UW GPA of 3.83. It is expected that the acceptance rate will dip slightly lower this year compared to last (but not by much) due to a slight increase in applications.

With regards to the claim that Michigan rejects “safety” applications. It’s not really true. If you are applying to Michigan as a safety, the only real reason you would be rejected is if you blow off your essays because you think you’re a shoe-in. Michigan has no problem in rejecting students that don’t put forth effort in their applications.
