@mathispchill I’m glad to hear that. Maybe it’s because half of my graduating class goes to MSU. That probably has something to do with it haha

@APodge Oh I’m out of state so that makes sense. Check out “I’m Schmacked” though

“Then again, if I get rejected, I’m gonna have to quickly apply to a couple other safeties…”

I certainly hope you didn’t think that U-M was your safety school. Michigan is NOT a safety school for virtually anyone.

Apodge, I would say that is true. For in state at least, there’s a definite confidence and maybe slight cockiness about going to Michigan. I would say that’s because there are such intense rivalries with MSU and OSU and they’re so close by.

I think for many it’s a low level match. One you think you’ll get into but can’t really expect to get into. Considering it’s acceptance rate, no one can rely on it as a safety, yes. Perhaps he was including low-reaches as safeties?

RJK, I could not agree more…where does these kids think MICHIGAN is a safety school???

Low matches, not low reaches

I applied because my sister goes there, so I’ve been on campus a lot and I love the atmosphere. I know it’s a great school and I’ve worked hard in high school and feel that I deserve to go to such a wonderful place (not that the other places I applied to are any less wonderful). I’m also from Michigan.

Exactly!!!

Well, I’m sorry, but I do think that Michigan is at least a low match for me. I’m not gonna explain why because I don’t want to sound completely arrogant, but it’s just my opinion. You’re free to disagree. Maybe it’s not a safety, because I still do have a backup plan and several other schools prepared in case I don’t get in. But I’m pretty confident about my chances.

I want to go to Michigan sooooo badly!!! I don’t even care about high school anymore. My brother’s a sophomore and i visited him (well i also live in Ann Arbor) and the atmosphere was amazing. All the students are so nice, sophisticated, helpful, and a lot of them are attractive. There are no trashy kids at Michigan. GOD I want to get in so badly. Also, East Quad got renovated and it is like a fricken hotel!!! I’m from Ann Arbor and I still want to go to UMICH that is how amazing it is… I cannot wait until the decisions get released!!

Also, at Michigan there are so many out of state and international students so the campus feels and is really diverse and global. The food on campus is absolutely amazing. Everyone at Michigan literally BLEEDS blue!! The students have so much school pride!! UGHHH I want to go there so badly!!

@ivanov, best of luck, but trust me…Michigan knows when they are being considered as a backup and will take a candidate with less credentials who truly wants to be TRUE BLUE!

I am sure your credentials are impressive, but unless you have a hook to the Ivies Michigan is the ultimate choice.

I applied because it has always been my dream to attend Michigan. I am going into engineering, so a top ranked engineering program like Michigan’s is ideal. In addition, my parents both attended for engineering and my family has had season tickets to football games since my parents graduated. I live 35-40 minutes from Ann Arbor so I visit campus all the time. I love the atmosphere of the Michigan and it is hard to imagine myself anywhere else.

@senna4ever - well, that depends on how you define “hook”… If I do manage to get into an Ivy or a similar-level college, I’m afraid Umich will no longer be the “ultimate choice” for me. And I still do think that it’s an amazing school, and I’ll be happy to go there. It’s just not the #1 choice for me… but probably the most realistic one.

Guys, please don’t count on decisions coming out this Friday. What with the Common App issues and the volume, not to mention the office denying that they’re prepared to release decisions, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. Plan on them for the 20th at the earliest, and then you’ll be pleasantly surprised if they come sooner.

Hook=Family ties, scholarship etc.

I truly wish you the best and hope you get your first choice.

Ivanov2014, why are you pretty sure you’ll get in? I won’t consider it arrogant, I’m just curious.

I can PM you about it if you want. Don’t really wanna spoil this thread with that discussion.

Looked at @ivanov2014’s past chance threads, his stats are well above the average for Michigan acceptances.
