Official College of William and Mary Class of 2011 Decisions Thread

soccerguy, yeah UVA is my first choice. Even if W&M isn't as stats based, everything else was up to snuff...my friends who were waitlisted had GPAs in the 3.7 range...and I know somebody who got a full ride with a 3.8 and lower SATs...meh.

"and I know somebody who got a full ride with a 3.8 and lower SATs...meh."

Recruited athlete? URM?

She's hispanic...barely.

out of curiosity how did the student from france get the acceptance letter before many of those in the united states? international mail takes FOREVER!

maybe they mailed decision letters to the internationals first? Or maybe they send them rush shipping?

i got my decision by email

Waitlisted... :(

Bummer! That prob means our D in Brussels didn't get in :(. Congrats to everyone who did :)

Wow, drock, I'm really surprised to hear that! Your stats are solid, and you're in state. I'm mystified. It must be a really really hard year. Best of luck to all those still waiting!

Extremely good recs

I thought my essays were terrible, mainly cause im not that good of a writer and I didnt have anybody check them. O ya and I wrote them two hours before they were due...

Instate from a small city in southern VA
Asian Male
Dad's a physician
Brother goes to William and Mary

I didnt think I would get in because my GPA was low, boy was I happy when I got my acceptance letter.

I applied for financial aid... maybe that had something to do with it but I don't know. But I'm kinda stumped too...

all decisions are made without knowledge of financial aid...financial situation has no bearing on the decision of acceptance, denial, or waitlisted-ness...i hope that makes sense.

Ok then! :D It's just ultra competitive this year...

My S got in instate with the following

4.55 weighted, 3.92 unweighted
Class rank 6/550. He made straight A's first semester and dropped to 8th
SAT's: V 720, M 680, W 730

AP's: French 5, BC Calc 5, US History 5
Only EC's: French Club, National Honor Society, selected and attended Governor's Language Academy at VCU last summer.

No recs, since not required.

I read his essay, done the night it was due, and it was pretty good.

Mom and dad both alums (I think this is the key), but we haven't given them much money, so maybe not the key!

[] APs/IBs: 9 total (5, 5, 4, 4 so far)
[] Other stats (Awards, etc.): AP Scholar with Honor, NHS
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] ECs: Got into UNC OOS with a likely letter and BC Honors, so couldn't have been too bad
[] Job/Work Experience: See above

[] State or Country: Pennsylvania
[] School Type: Public

[] Strengths/Weaknesses: Grades & test scores / Extracurriculars
[] Why you think you were accepted/wait-listed/denied: Didn't do anything for the optional submission.
[li] Attending? Nope[/li][/ul]

Waitlisted?! Granted, you're facing the most competition as a white OOS female, but that's beyond incredible...

Son's Decision: ACCEPTED!

Stats:
SAT I: 2210
SAT IIs: 3, all in mid-600s
ACT: 33
GPA: ~3.9 w
Rank: school does not rank
Other stats: 7 APs by senior year, NMF

Subjective
Extracurriculars: average
Essays: I know he tried to be more creative with W&M's than with other schools
Teacher Recs: don't know
Counselor Rec: don't know
Hook (if any): none

Location/Person
State or Country: NY
School Type: competitive urban public
Ethnicity: Asian/Caucasian
Gender: Male
Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses: Good in both science/math and verbal stuff, but many kids are strong in both
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: demonstrated interest in the school; felt interview went well, OOS male
Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Son and both parents love the school, and S is seriously considering it.

I really don't get it myself. I'm just really bothered that it seems like W&M attempted to make a decision based off whether they thought I was truly interested and would attend. They were wrong, because I would have attended.

It certainly doesn't seem to be completely logical, 19382...my S who was accepted at W&M was rejected EA by UNC-CH. Not waitlisted or deferred...rejected. On paper, he looked like a match there.
