rejected... ::sighs::

waitlisted, columbia college.

was anyone accepted and going somewhere else? i wish they let you give up your spot to specific people on the waitlist.

AFalcon10: you have a tough decision there... But, some people often choose SFS over the Big Three... Are you really willing to go to Columbia?

Yeah, I want to know that too because I'm applying to both. Why would you leave SFS and go to Columbia?

alpharosean: Would you turn down Yale for SFS if you were a politics fanatic? I think Bill Clinton did that, haha and then went to Yale for law school.

Plus, why did you say that you are a little famous?! I am really curious.

I dont know if GU's work hard play hard atmosphere/ rampant careerism is right for me

Columbia > Georgetown.

aka I'm transferring out of Georgetown to Columbia. yay!

i dunno if id say that but definitely different strokes for different folk yal know

nyctransfer12: If you are not in SFS or the language department at Georgetown, Columbia might be a better choice for you.

But, we are talking about SFS vs. Columbia's IR program if there is one.

they are both good schools every1 calm down lol

HoosforGTown, I am not a political fanatic but yeah, I've (almost) made up my mind after visiting New Haven yesterday. My predecessor aka some girl at my college also did that. But my application to Columbia College has been transferred to a non-residential college called SS or something, and I'm still waiting on it. It will be a tough choice between SFS and Columbia if I get in, because I really want to stay at home. What about you?

AFalcon: I agree, haha.
alpharosean: I really can't think of any other school besides SFS for my major, IPE. I am from an urbanized town in Northern Virginia which is literally 15 mins from Georgetown, so I won't have to worry about travelling at all.

waitlisted. does anyone know any of the admission stats for this year (# applied, # spaces for transfers)? it seems to me like that "short" waitlist may not be so short afterall.

haha yeah sorry, I'm not saying Georgetown's not a good school; I was actually in the language department, but it just wasn't for me. Columbia's always been a dream school, too. But good luck to everyone!

nyctransfer12: good for you. are you studying arabic?

I'm planning on being a double-major in Economics and Spanish, though I was (and still am, somewhat) considering transferring into the SFS, instead. If I go to Columbia, it wouldn't necessarily be because of Georgetown's lacking academics, but rather that I simply prefer Columbia as an institution and didn't get in last year. With that said, the SFS is an absolutely amazing school with an outstanding reputation.

Either way, you'll undoubtedly receive an excellent education.

anyone else think its strange that so many of us transfers are choosing between columbia and georgetown? it seems like everyone who got into columbia also applied to, and got in at, georgetown.

guess there is more overlap between the two schools than i thought.

nyctransfer12: To be honest, access to NYC is such a huge temptation!

Casey2889: I think a lot of people look at the two schools because they are located in cities. Although I like NYC better because I live close to D.C. and am kinda tired of it, some people like the whole political enthusiasm of D.C.

I heard Columbia is informally segregated. Is Georgetown just like that?

As a completely biased New Yorker who went to high school in Manhattan, I was very surprised when I found out what a small city D.C. was. I can't resist going to school in New York City, especially because I'm not even into politics all that much.

In my opinion, Georgetown definitely has its share of segregation. While there are obviously exceptions, I would say that that's the general case, as far as I've seen.

i mentioned this on another thread, but does anyone know which dorms transfers are placed in at columbia?
