I just realized on the ID email that we can check the status only till December 2nd…which means after that they’ll be preparing to get the results…

Does anyone else find it amusing to read prospective student posts on the Columbia Admissions Facebook page? If you’re interested in reading blatant English language gaffes, check it out. I’m appalled any Columbia hopeful wouldn’t double check their post for grammar or fluidity when directly contacting the admissions staff. Also, so many of the questions are repeats. Other answers to some questions are posted on the Columbia website in the FAQ section, and then others are right here on CC. It’s totes magotes embarrassing (and perhaps deleterious?) to attach your name and scandalous profile pic to incomprehensible or elementary questions posed to the admissions staff, right? #c’monman

Personally, I’d just feel silly if after asking an admissions rep a question, they referred me to their website. And when revealing your identity over Facebook, how different is it from a face-to-face conversation. I just see consulting the admissions team as a last resort option. Very understandable to call into the office and check to see if they’ve received your application materials, but why put your name beside a question asking if they require the SAT. That’s what CC is for, right? With an alias, here, we are free to ask stupid questions. How do you all feel about contacting the admissions office? Is the Facebook page a ploy to put your name out there? Do you think anyone is trying to write elaborate messages to impress the adcoms? What I meant is that some of the messages on Facebook are prolifically overdone and as a reader, at some point, you ask why can’t you state this in plain english or why did you write an entire paragraph to ask a four word question. No hating, but I’m lost looking for their motive.

guys want to post stats and stuff?

Anybody get any likely letters?

@mustangman I like to call into the admissions office around 8pm and inquire about what they’re wearing that fine evening. I figured that after say five occurrences they’d at least look up my phone number and see that I was the one calling and note my dedication. I wonder if this gives me perks for originality.

@mustangman-

a) The use of hashtags and saying totes magotes pretty must just made you my favorite person. #truestory
b) Pretty much just, everything you said. After I sent in my application, I put both my Facebook and my Twitter on complete lockdown, there’s no way I’m intentionally going to let an admissions officer see it. There’s not even anything inflammatory on it, I just feel it’s unprofessional.

@parakeetfeet -

Sure, why not.

SAT (took it once): Math 670, Writing 770, Reading 800
SAT II (see above): U.S. History 760, Literature 790
APs: World History, English Language, Human Geography (5s): Calculus AB, Psychology, U.S. History (4s), Calculus BC (3) [didn’t send in that score lol]
Also, I’m taking AP Environmental Science, AP Government, AP Macro Economics, and AP English Lit this year.

GPA: 104.4 (weighted out of 100)
Rank: 2 out of 217

Hooks (I guess):

Here’s to hoping!

@bassbooster,

I have received a likely letter. Why do you ask?

@theamazingmez

You’re in. If they don’t accept you, I will honestly be SHOCKED. You’re EXACTLY what Columbia College wants. I’d wish you good luck, but you don’t need it! :O

Just got an email about the financial aid tracking info.

@JackB427

That pretty much just made my night, thank you so much! Too kind. (:

Although I mistyped, I’m actually a National Merit /Commended/ Scholar, not the full awesome NMS. Hopefully that’s not a make it or break it point, haha.

@fujoshi When did you submit your application and/or finaid stuff? I’m assuming the financial aid tracking emails are coming out in batches like the ID ones did…

@fujoshi thank you for the laugh, that was a clever one. Once, I also mistakenly keyed in my bosses phone number as my personal phone sex hotline, so, fear not, you are not alone (jk, can you imagine the 11pm phone call). Haha, regardless of how admissions receives your jesting, you’ve won yourself perks for originality in this thread.

@theamazingemz thank you, and likewise - anyone who drops the phrase “totes magotes” immediately wins my respect haha. Btw, I concur with what JackB427 says, you have a very impressive profile.

Of course there are many legitimate questions on the Columbia Facebook page, but if you scroll back far enough, you begin seeing trends. And, by seeing trends, I mean you start recognizing the same posters, with the same plain questions. I, too, did a thorough review of the content on my Facebook and Twitter pages. Simply said, I wouldn’t want to draw any attention to myself, or my Facebook page from the admissions staff. Plus, if there’s a personal issue with your application, why let mustangman and the rest of the world also read the tell all.

How are the rest of people’s apps going? Are your parents pestering you to finish other applications too? How many colleges besides Columbia have you applied to/been admitted to? Where?

Did anyone receive any emails about Financial Aid materials?

@SherriClue: Yes. But I can’t log into it. lol.

@SherriClue @LOLSAURUS
I’ve been attempting with various amounts of success to log in since the tracking website went up. (I got to the “create a PIN” once! And then I created it and it didn’t work.) I haven’t gotten an email yet, but I’m thinking they’re just alerting everyone to the existence of the site right now so you can check it when it goes up on… the 2nd? (someone check me there)

@neiro6 @SheeriClue like the original tracking email said, I think we can’t do anything until December 1st, that’s when it said we can start checking finaid info…

@ Lolsaurus : If you don’t mind me asking, what did the email say? I received an email saying that earlier today they were reviewing my file and noticed that I have not yet submitted all of my financial aid forms for the Early Decision process. They said they would personally update my file and gave me the emergency fax number. Should I be worried or is this is good sign that they may actually be interested in me if they took the time to review my file and send me a personal email? Did your email include your name or was it automated?

@mustangman: There are people outside the realm of CC who genuinely lack information as well as the motivation to do an Internet search. And people are not being uncharacteristically pedantic or otherwise on the Facebook page, they are just being who they really are.

@LOLSAURUS: I haven’t got the email :(
