SAT scores take 2 weeks to send so if ou are applying EA I would get on that.

Could somebody please explain me the difference in between the School, Midyear and Final Report?

Which one should I turn in?

You dont turn any of them in. They are all for your school counselor to do. Look at the forms. They are asking questions about you. The mid year and final report just show the schools you are not slacking off as soon as you get accepted.

I seem to remember in my highschool years (we shared the playing field with dinosaurs), once you sent in your apps, that was it, and you could practically take the rest of the year off. The mid and final report put an end to that.

I want to send in my Early Action applications, but I am not done with my Regular Decision ones. Is there a way to just send in the Early Action apps?

do i have to put the topic if im doing "topic of choice"?

for the sat's....i took the oct. one so i put in the sat section just the date & then for the other times i took it i liusted my scores...should i wait to get my scores or should i send in the apps & then when they get my score report they will see my october scores? im applying ea so i need to send in my app.... i could wait until oct 25th but id rather not....i hope i explained this ? well....yeah

i had more but i cant remember....oh well...

im sure my question has been answered somewhere already, but if i am adding a resume, do i just write "see attached" in the extracurricular, work experience etc. boxes

i3asketballboy:
thanks for the help!
i was wondering the same thing, so i looked it up on commonapp's site under FAQ and here's what they say:

"HOW DO I SUBMIT MY COMMON APPLICATION?
Once you have answered all required questions, you may submit your application. Click the 'Submit' button to submit your application - - this button can be found on the 'Sign & Submit' section and the 'My Colleges' section.

You must submit the Common App to each of your selected institutions. This can be done all at one time, or one at a time. After you have submitted your Common App, you may add additional institutions and submit your application to them, as well. Once you have submitted your Common App to any institution, your application will be locked and you will not be able to make any changes to it. "

so i guess the answer is yes! :D

sweatpants: Caltech specifically tells you NOT to refer to an attached resume. I assume all schools are different. You need to read the instructions for each school.

I read through this whole thread but didn't find an answer to this question - can you open two common app accounts so that you can send one application to your EA/ED schools and another to your RD schools, or, for that matter, could you have 3 accounts and customize as you like? It's really unfair that you have to send your EA common app to your RD schools. If you don't get into your EA schools you might really want to evaluate your essays, short answer, etc! Plus, each school openly tries to emphasize their differences - the concept of customizing applications to specific schools seems very important. Who made this decision to lock the application? My first son used it 3 years ago and there was no restriciton then!

I should ask - why did they make this decision not who made it? Was the organization encouraged to do so by the schools or is it a cost cutting measure of some type? Everyone who disagrees with this should definitely send an email to commonapp. Another question, if you use the school's online application can you send in the common application teacher recommendations to avoid requesting another recommendationi of the teachers?

Rileydog, I thought I did read somewhere in this thread or another on this forum that you cannot open more than one common app account. And I totally agree with you that this new policy stinks.

We are being forced to fill out the school specific app where available and may even send in paper copies to some schools - I am looking into a PDF editor that we can use to fill out the form.

When we submit the CA, does it send to all our colleges? at the same time?

someone did a great post here about editing the essay. It started with a comment about how/why llimit it to around 500-600 words. I've checked several pages and tried a search but there is just too much info here. Anybody got a clue?

RatedPG - try PDFIll. It is a shareware program - $20. You can try it for free (but you cannot print out a clean copy unless you pay). I have found it invaluable. You can find it through google.

The essay-editing post is #5 in this thread:http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=400681

Thank you!

Has anyone ever received a technical error while submitting the common app? I submitted, the page said "Technical error, contact support" or something, and then I clicked submit again, got an error message saying "please select a college from the list" (of course I already had). So I go to my checklist and it says I've already submitted the application, but I did NOT get a confirmation email. Also, I submitted my supplement shortly after and DID receive a confirmation email. Is this bad? I contacted common app support already but I'm freaking out here!

hi guys
i have a question

for common app recommendation letters, do you ask your teachers to handwrite ALL of them, or just photocopy?

i'm applying to 8 schools, do you think i can get them to handwrite them?

personally i do believe that handwritten forms are more sincere =P

thx!

yihan - Write one, then photocopy. You are proably asking someone who has much more experience in this than you do. Let them do it as they please.

Demanding, or even requesting, that someone handwrite all of them, strikes me as a way to get a little less glowing rec.

Honestly? schools see so many of them. Some are going to be handwritten. That might just be because it was the original. I cannot imagine an adcom caring.
