Recs? You mean recommendations? And my school doesn't send my grades. I have to mail the transcript. You can't photocopy the transcript either. You just have to ask for several copies. Then look on the school's official website to find the mailing labels so you can stick them on the envelope when you're sending them.

DNDUSWO - I believe some of the schools enter info from the applications into their own database, so that they can sort and organize and track the data.

I'm sure they're working on a way to have the info transfer directly from the Common App to their database, but I'm not sure if that's been streamlined yet or not.

From what I can see, various schools are at various levels of having the process computerized.

One rep said that he works at a desk with two monitors. One monitor has the applicant's data, and he enters his notes via the form on the second monitor...

Next to the extra curricular activities, instead of putting positions held or honors won, can we give a brief description of what we did?

i.e. Activity: Gifts of Love
positions held, honors won: organized food and clothing drives

Hi all... on the Common App page, the Short Activity response says it has to be 150 words or less, but the characters allowed in the box (3500) can actually fit 300 words... Do I follow the character limit or the word limit?

As well, for the Main Essay, there is no word limit. Is it Ok if its around 700 words?

Thanks!

Go for the word limit. Always go for word limit. ^_^ They didn't say X number of characters, now did they? They said X number of words. So go with words. And the essay sounds fine. Mine is 710 or so.

"You may submit your Common Application to one or more institutions at a time, and to other institutions in the future. Please note that once submitted to any institution, your Common Application can no longer be edited or changed. **Use the print preview functionality prior to submitting to ensure that all your information has been entered correctly. I get that message when I'm about to submit....*? I thought that we could edit the common app after submission to one school?

Bob...You can only make alternate versions for different schools.....you cannot edit the version that you have already submitted....DOes this make sense? PM me if you need help...we already did it last week.....

I wasn't talking about editing it for the school we submitted, I was talking about altering other schools' editions... How come that message still comes up?

No idea...

If i submit the Common app now for an early action school, can I edit it in December for a regular decision school?

I'm pretty sure the answer is yes but I just want to make sure.

I believe so. But someone else should confirm how this is done.

After you submit the application, you can copy it to another version. That new version can be edited and submitted to one or more additional colleges. You can repeat this process as needed.

^

You can only repeat this process 9 times, for a total of 10 versions.

10 versions is more than enough for almost anyone though. A lot of schools have their own applications and don't use the Common App.

how do i use the common app as a paper application? Im almost done filling out all the info and attaching the essay, at first i thought that i can just hit "view/print" print that, check it over and send the PRINTED copy, but after reading some stuff in the site, it says please do NOT do that, so how am i suppose to get the paper copy of my application??

and how will this work with the different supplements for every school?

Do you need to put your name on every page of any supplemental or additional info? I tlooks like it does it automatically, but it isnt clear.

So how do you revise the common for RD schools after submitting it for schools EA?

answer to my question anyonee?? =//

You cannot generate a paper copy from the data entered at the CA Web site without it having the "applicant copy" watermark. You would need a pdf editor to modify the hardcopy produced. To submit a paper copy, you could download the blank application forms from the CA Web site and fill them in.

for recommendation and stuff, do i need the original paper or can i use copy of it??
