Flamings: Say you waive your right. I also had my teachers reevaluate because they were basically copying what they wrote on the first one over. I think it looks really bad if you make a photocopy but that is just me.

Rated: I'm not kidding. I believe that's what they mean when they say "make a different version."

Eloquence: I believe it locks the edition but I'm not too sure, as I sent them all at once (even the regular decision applications in October).

But on the CommonApp form it says to photocopy and for the teacher to keep the original. It says:

"The Common Application membership finds candid evaluations helpful in choosing from among highly qualified candidates. A photocopy of this reference form, or another reference you may have prepared on behalf of this student, is acceptable. You are encouraged to keep the original of this form in your private files for use should the student need additional recommendations. Please return it to the appropriate admission office(s) in the envelope(s) provided to you by this student. Please submit your references promptly. Be sure to sign below."

QuixoticRick: lol, for someone who finds it unnecessary to submit paper applications over online applications, it's conflicting that you think it's advantageous to submit originals over photocopies.

You do know that there are clerks who'll end up making photocopies for each member of the adcoms anyway right?

If you're applying to many schools with the commonapp, you're gonna end up annoying your teachers and GC. I might still need their help next time, and I'm applying to 6 CA schs this time. Not gonna risk it.

We went in to submit an alternate version. It makes you complete the school forms page and we keep getting an error message. Has anyone else had this problem?

Could someone give me some urgent advice? the Stanford EA deadline is waay past, and I just checked commonapp and it says 'not submitted' for the supplement!!! I'm sure that I had submitted it, but what should I do now??????
I'm planning to call them when their office opens in half an hour......... do you think my EA chances are ruined??

Annabell: i know that Caltech just sent out email to their applicants telling them which parts of thier apps were missing, and giving them time to track the missing parts.

In any case, the adcom office should be able to tell you this. Good luck.

I just called the office, and after the admissions representative on the phone heard that the commonapp displays 'Not Submitted', she seemed convinced that it couldn't have been submitted and that there was no way I could still be considered for the Early Application round.

I also heard that Stanford does not create a file for applicants until all parts of the application (i.e. the Common App, the supplement, and the payment) have been received. It could be that Stanford's 'missing stuff' email is just for school transcripts, teacher recommendations, etc.

I'm planning to email the head of admissions to ask if they have it and what to do if they don't. I'm afraid they'll conclude that it was carelessness on my part, and I would have to be switched to the Regular Decision round... From their point of view, it could seem rather unconvincing that a system error like this could have occurred.

I know everyone has said the long essay on the common ap. should be double spaced.....does it need a title? Should the short essay also be double spaced? I'm guessing not or it won't fit.

wait im lost then, is it ok to photo copy evaluations and w.e else needs to be waived? or do you have to annoy a teacher to fill out the same info different amounts of times.

stay under 180
don't need title, although it would be good to think of a good title
double or single is fine. when you paste into text box for short essay, it wil automatically revert to single anywya

Thanks for the answers! A few more questions...

What is supposed to go at the top of your essay? You said a title is optional, but are you supposed to put your SS# or anything?

When I preview and print my application, it has that section at the top that asks you to sign if you're doing ED. Well, I am, but I don't see where on the common app online you can sign saying you are doing ED.

Yeah, it's funny how things work out. Yet, I did it and my teachers actually suggested it to me, as did my counselor. They said that they didn't mind because they only really had to do one and just copy the recommendations and sign each one, as well as transfer over the tick marks.

Do you guys know how to embellish actual events or money you've raised in a club or organization on the common app? I put the actual club under my extracurriculars, but is there any way I can show that i created a tutoring program on the app? Or would it just be under additional info?

Again, sorry if this a repeat question.
Successfully started an alternate version of the common app but cannot upload the essay and additional info docs. When I click "upload", nothing happens?
Thanks.

I'm not really talking about honesty, rather where to write what I did exactly. Since I did actuaally create a tutoring program, I want to write it somewhere on the common app. Do you know where to put that>

Also, where do we list how many hours weve done for community service

bumping my question because i'm trying to send out this baby tonight...
