um…wisdom86, did u have a typo? 5.3 gpa, omg, i’ve never seen that in my life…

^ Some places use 6/7 point scales, if I’m not mistaken. :)

Hey all! Hope EDs were a breeze and didn’t stress you out too much. I just wanted to stop by and share a quick story.

During my senior year of high school (class of 2008), I decided to apply to Cornell. I knew it was going to be a reach being that I had a 3.4 cumulative, horrid test scores, and not too many extra curriculars that made my application gleam. Nonetheless, this was something I really wanted. I applied ED and was flat out rejected. I was hurt, not because I didn’t get in, but because I knew I could have done better. I could have done a lot better. After receiving that somber letter, I decided to stay home and go to the community college here instead of attending one of the other four year universities I was accepted into. This would give me the opportunity I needed to get my “stuff” together. I needed to work on those study habits I never fully developed, and I had to undergo a metamorphosis to become a better person in general.

During the first semester of my second year in college (the semester I am currently in), I had a crazy idea that I was not going to wait another semester and apply for fall admission. I figured why not try to go one semester earlier? I am deathly afraid of rejection, but I would have a 0% chance of getting in if didn’t apply. On October 31, I submitted my spring '10 application. Thursday of this week, that envelope two years in the making finally arrived. I had been accepted into the school of Industrial and Labor Relations. Don’t get me wrong, I worked my patootie off, but not in the conventional sense. I did work hard in the class room, but I worked even harder outside. I had to correct everything that I did wrong during the first go around. I guess the moral to this story is there is not one path to a certain place. If you got that rejection letter as an ED, just know that there are hundred of other ways to get to your desired final destination.

I hope that inspired you a little. Don’t hesitate to PM me if you have any questions.

Good luck to you all!

no… no typo…

unweighted 3.8 - weighted 5.3+

It’s because I’ve taken only IB and AP classes give or take the arbitrary PE credit I needed for graduation… In addition, I’ve taken extra classes over the summer online, or at a local college… So in addition to my IB curriculum, I’ll graduate having taken around 15 AP classes…

My schools kind of intense…

@Riceboy

Schools have different ways of calculating weighted GPA.
For example, unweighted GPA at my school has a max of 4.3 = A+
Weighted gives +1 point for accelerated classes, and +2 point for honors/AP classes, bringing the max to above 6.0.

@MDG9023: =], I’m sincerely happy for you, your story is truly inspiring, I hope you the best of luck for the future.

hey - did u call them today? i got the same thing…

Does anyone know if/when Cornell sends out snail-mail notifications of ED? D doesn’t want to look online and is waiting for the piece of paper.

I know that they send out mail if you’re accepted, but not sure about deferred or rejected. I received mine two days after we were notified online.

Son got his a few days after looking online. I would think you should have gotten something by now. Is he going to open the mail when it comes? Why not check online, it would end the “not knowing”.
