Official Cornell Transfer 2011

@Edithzzle: That is correct. I was reading the Transfer Manual and unfortunately there are no GTs for A&S applicants.

@tallFrodo: Thanks for the YouTube channel! It made me laugh, I watched about 12 of them…lol… fun fun… I wish his videos were longer =(.

I am open to more videos =).

So, I would like to know, what is your ideal future job/career?

Mine: I would like to work for the UN, specifically with the WHO to help cure diseases around the world.

whos gonna live on west campus?!

@kev

I applied… we shall see. (Praying I don’t get put in Schuyler…)

Hey guys,

I have been wondering…I thought the date for sending in your application was like March 3rd? Did you guys send in your application early…is that why you guys are waiting for acceptances already? Sorry for the dumb question…but i was kind of confused. Anyways good luck to everyone thats applied and is waiting for a response!

i still haven’t gotten my acceptance package :(

@anandrega
We are spring transfer applicants, not fall. If we are accepted we start attending Cornell in January 2011.

@Ithacakid: We missed you on here.

@Kevlar22: KEVVVVV!!! I wish I could start talking about where I will be living!!

@Ithacakid91: Thanks! Good luck to those who applied early!

What are the chances for a transfer from a CC in California to Cornell. Should I even bother applying?

@anandrenga2001: Cornell has/will accept a cc student. I would rec you to apply If you really want to know your chances =) plus, It doesn’t hurt to apply (unless you can’t pay the application fee). I think it’s all about fit and having a strong academic background, this is what I’ve learned about this process. I don’t know what you mean by applying early?

Any good news from my fellow A&S transfer?

@anandrenga: if you got great GPA, ECs, recs, etc … then why not? — that’s what I used to think. But let’s see how I go with my application :(. Maybe you are right that we CC students should not even bother applying :(

@harvardhop: let’s say, if I am waitlisted and you are admitted and you are willing to withdrawn to give me the spot then I will, in return, give u my ticket to Paris. ;)

@tallfrodo: It might be too late for the chancing game but I will still very appreciate your time doing it for me. Be warned, my case is pretty complicated. lol

I have 36 credits, 4.0 GPA at a Community college. I also have 4 credits with an A- grade (worth 3.67 GPA) from an online upperlevel class at Harvard Extension School (which the school claims to be “as rigorous as Harvard” - i dunno i should believe them or not. lol. but yeah it was 10 times harder than my CC classes). So I dunno how they will calculate my total GPA.

for ECs: At school, I am member of Phi Theta Kappa. And I had 2 years expeience working as a Business Development Manager in a company (small one). I am Asian and was born in Asia but moved and lived in Europe for a few years and finally immigrated to Texas. (Yeah, I am US permanent resident, not International Student)

And I have 2 pretty good recs from the profs. But the drawbacks are that my HS GPA is around 2.5 only. And I am OLD! (24). I have been away from HS for a few years and only decided to go back to school recently.

Honestly, I don’t have that high hopes but I would like to take a lucky Ivy shot course one of my profs told me that I might stand a chance being kinda different in the pool.

Oh man, I was offered a full-ride from a not-so-great-but-not-too-bad univ, also got admitted to a pretty-good one and will have to make a decision to either get the full-ride or enroll and pay the bill ASAP. I just can’t wait forever.

But for now, I am expecting the worst. If Cornell rejects me this time, do you guy think I should try apply again for the fall? Perhaps at another Ivy? Because if I just stay at my CC then after the Spring 2011, I will be graduating with an AA degree (I think with a 4.0 GPA) and 12 credits from Harvard Extension School (which I aim to get A-, B+) also I have just been elected to VP of Scholarship at Phi Theta Kappa and VP of Membership at another student club. So I would have considerable improvements from my last application.

I analyze my application and see that I will have good college academic performance at basic level (community college), and good performance at rigorous courses (Harvard Extension), ECs in school (VP of Scholarship/Membership), ECs in works (2 years manager). I might not be the best but I think I am pretty well-rounded. The two things that keep haunting me are my HS GPA and being OLD! :(( Most of my old classmates are in (or are graduating from) gradschools already.

Ur stats scream columbia gs to me. Have u looked into it? Its so diff from harvard extension or penn. In columbia gs u enroll in the same classes as other kids - u just cant major in engineering.

Being ‘old’ actually helps u. they prob wont even look at ur hs scores. But…harvard extension is recognized as being a lot easier than harvard. Esp if it was an online course

Did u complete all prereqs for cornell? if u did i would be suprised if u got rejected. But then again aem and bio are the hardest to get into in cals

Well, I have a modest budget only. Yeah, I am aware of it but I won’t be able to pay 30k+ for Columbia gs :(

And although I am kinda old, I ain’t gonna fit in a class with a bunch of students in their 40s :frowning: That’s kinda too old for even an old guy :)) [after all I am just 5 years older than u guys, but the other guys might be 15-20 years older than me :frowning: ]

@Mixter: If you don’t get accepted I would rec you to re-apply after you get your AA. Don’t worry about being too old I don’t think any university actually cares about age. My friend is 24 and recently got into Brown. His excuse for not going to collge was because he went to the Army, If that was your case, Brown is your best option. I would advice you to apply to more than one Ivy, If that’s what you want.
Another thing, how were your essays for Cornell? What did you write about? I am asking you this, because If you wrote about why you didn’t start College after HS It would be the best essay choice.
A friend of mine also got into Stanford as a Freshman when he was 21. So, when he graduates Stanford he will be 25, in your case, you will graduate with a BA at 26, right? Not much of a difference. Keep a positive mind going and know that you will be accepted!!

U take the same courses in columbia gs :stuck_out_tongue: so u’ll be taking them with peers

hey. Thanks harvardhop and tallFrodo for your advices. I will try to keep the positive mind. Columbia GS has always been so attractive to me, it’s just I won’t be able to pay their big bills :(.

@harvardhop: yeah. I wrote about how my youngself arrogantly looked down on education. How I struggled and overcome the odds of being under-educated in the job market and how I got back to school. My English prof read it and commented that it is “good in style , rich and original in contents”. I ain’t one of those writers but I have quite a story to tell. I think as long as I ain’t applying for English major, my essay will do pretty fine.

Mixter: That’s good. As much as people try to make you believe that essays are not that important, they are. You have a perfect GPA, I bet that is going to stand out. Congrats on that not many people come back like that… =)O… I can almost bet money that you will get in A&S =)… I have a feeling that we are getting a decision in Dec…=(… Last year A&S reported getting a decision during that time… I know you’re going to succeed no matter where you go =). If we both get in, we should be roommates!

Yeah. I think I will just hold my horse and wait for the A&S decision. Even if they reject me, I will have more options to explore in the 2011 Fall transfer upon getting my AA degree. Rushing to a transfer won’t do me no good. And thanks harvardhop. We should definitely be roommates, then we can date girls who are also roommates and we can exchange rooms every weekend. Nobody is gonna knoe. lol. Kidding. But I bet that A&S will have more pretty girls than CALS, tallFrodo will come to us begging to be hooked up with some A&S lady. :))

@tallFrodo: I am applying to A&S as sophomore transfer and I don’t think they have prereq for sophomore transfers. I looked at my major and they don’t even have any prereq for junior transfers except two College Composition courses and a full-year of a science. I previously wanted to apply for Communications in CALS thus I took English Composition I,II + Biology I,II + Statistics + Sociology and satisfied those prereqs already. However I changed my mind later and applied for A&S instead. Harvardhop, do you need any prereqs for your A&S major?

Anyway, decision in Dec? I guess I have no other solution but going into hibernation. [Yawn] … wake me up when November ends … Zzzzz …

@Mixter: You are seriously someone who I can imagine kicking it with at Cornell! Umm, I don’t know about the Pre-reqs, I don’t think A&S has any. All I know is that I am in good academic standing and I have taken all AP tests (Subject Tests) so I hope by that they will see that I am capable of doing the work! (all 5’s). I’m sure you’re fine Mixter! Don’t worry about If we have pre-reqs. If we did, we are too late for that now. You should have applied to CALS as an alternative major. That’s what I did, in Dev.Sociology. If you would had done that I bet you would have been accepted, or GT’d already. Unfortunately, we A&S only get ACCEPTED or REJECTED. I am not 100 percent sure that we will get our decision in DEC, but I am almost sure we will. I also feel that any of us can expect a decision next week. If decisions are sent in Dec, please God, let it be the 25th, and a Acceptance =)…

@talFrodo: you’re in trouble now…Burn don’t worry we will let you hang.

No, you are right. I just double checked and saw that there are no prereq for transfers of A&S. Just some requirements for getting the degree which we don’t have to worry about now. By the way, we can apply for alternative major? Man, I thought that Cornell decides that on their discreetion so I didn’t bother about alternative major at all :frowning: Anyway, I kinda like A&S way: winner takes it all, loser has to fall. We both will win this game. We have to.

And u r soooo right on the part that we can’t do nothing now. Let’s just eat, pray, love. And hope Santa Claus gonna come with a big gift in Dec :))

Yes, let’s hope Santa brings us our big WHITE present!!! lol… I want Santa to come early this year ;). I’m starting to think a lot of people who used to post on here got a decision and haven’t told us. It would help us to know, you know what I mean, since rejections are sent last (or, at least thats what we think).

PLEASE, IF YOU’RE SOMEONE WHO HAS RECEIVED A DECISION FROM A&S PLEASE LET US KNOW. IF YOU DON’T WANT TO TELL US IF YOU GOT REJECTED OR NOT, JUST POST THAT YOU GOT A DECISION THANKS.
